Unable to use multiple USB disks for backup

Thread needs solution

Hi there,

We have purchased Acronis True Image 2010 Home edition for backup purposes. Occasionally we wish to switch backup disks (external USB) so we can take the data elsewhere for safety purposes. As soon as I switch the usb disk, even though it has the same number, it doesnt backup to the 2nd USB disk.

How can I resolve this issue so it will automaticly backup to the 2nd usb disk?

Even though the drive may have the same drive letter and number, it's still considered a different drive. You would need to create a different backup task for the new drive.

Hello,

Let me comment this situation.

Yes, current version of Acronis True Image Home 2010 does not allow to create one task to swapped drives. Probably this feature will be added to the one of next releases. So you should create two separate tasks, as MudCrab correctly suggested.

Regards,

Has this issue ever been addressed in newer versions? I'm using the Acronis True Image 2014 and it appears unchanged as far as I can tell. This forces me to create a pre-command to delete old backup files from a bat file as a work-around.

In 2012-2013-2014, a separate backup task is needed for each storage disk to be used. Each task is tied to a specific disk ID and any change of disk ID will result in a failed backup.

The solution for these versions is to create a specific backup task for each storage disk and when you switch storage disks, stop using the task for the removed disk and switch to the matching pre-configured backup task for the new change.

Thanks GroverH, That's what I thought the current solution for removable media was. It just wont work then if backups are scheduled and users are rotating a number of backup devices that don't match the number of scheduled backup jobs. For example, if a backup is scheduled for M-F, but the user is only rotating 3 backup devices. It would be nice if there was a setting to just delete the old backup job, no matter what, and overwrite it with the new one. Simplicity sometimes is the answer.
