Understanding File Times
Using Acronis True Image Home 2011
Windows XP SP3
I schedule 2 backup tasks in sequence, both of them backing up the same stuff.
The second task is a duplicate of the first to a different drive (instead of using ATI archive procedure).
Data size approx 170GB
Example;
Backup 1 start 10:30 PM
Select not shutting down PC
"Guess-ti mating" backup time of 3 hours including validate.
And allowing a little extra time before starting second.
Backup 2 start 3:30 AM (is the following day from first)
Select shut down PC when done.
The next morning looking in Windows Explorer shows backup 1:
Created 10:30:15 PM
Modified 1:31:23 AM
Second backup shows:
Created 3:36:57 AM
Modified 6:37:23 AM
But I find this second backup/validation still running at 8 AM before shutting down.
Are the Modified times in Explorer the actual times of completion?
If not, what are they?

Iirc, scheudled start times are givne as the bckup times in ati but Explorer tags a file with the time when the the file was closed for writing. So a Task started and 1:00pm and finished at 3:pm would show in ati as 1:00pm and have a file time in Explorer of 3:00 pm. Howver, ATI used to be off by one hour, haven't lloked to see if that's still the case. so, going back to the prior example, the 1:00pm task whould show as being 2:00 pm in ati and Explorer would show a file date of 3:00pm.
easy enough to test wheter the file is closed as soon as the writing is done or when task is at completion; I'd expect it to be closed after all operations are completed. You could test by tmaking a task that backups up the sme data to another directory and doesn't overwrite the existing backup.

Scott:
My backups are to external USB drives. I can watch disk activity.
I made a test backup and switching between ATI and Explorer, I find that the backup finishes (closes writing) at the time shown in Explorer as the "Modified" time. The extra disk activity after that is when ATI is validating the backup. Explorer doesn't know about that.
So I believe all is well and normal.
Thank you for your response.
