Undo Backup to new PC

Thread solved

I am a computer novice. I have an old Western Digital MY Book back of drive I've used to back up my 12 year old desktop. I got a new dell desktop yesterday and wanted to move files only to the new PC. Docs, photos etc. WD doesn't support the old drive so I was instructed to use acronis to facilitate back up and move files to new PC. I selected the files I wanted but Acronis also selected OS. I tried backing up to new PC only to discover it had copied over program files too. What do I do to undo this. Can I undo the back up. No recovery point on new PC as I got it yesterday.

Monica, welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry but if you have restored a very old backup of a different Windows system (OS, programs etc) to your new desktop PC, then there is no method of undoing the changes made - the first action when doing such a restore is to wipe the target disk drive then recreate the partitions from the old system.

I can only suggest contacting Dell and asking them to provide you with a recovery DVD to put the Dell back to how it was supplied from their factory.

It may also be possible to perform a factory restore of the Dell PC if the Dell recovery partition survived the restore but that is probably unlikely to be the case.
