uninstall ATI 11
Hi, I recently had a problem with my win xp sp3 pc. I had to run a windows repair to fix a freezing problem, all good after the repair except ATI v11 refused to allow me to back up. I tried putting the original legal disc in and do a repair, which it said it was doing, but it never finished. Had to kill it with task manager and reboot. Ill fix it i say, ill uninstall and reinstall. I tried revo to uninstall it but an error box said that an installer was running and that should finish first. That was the ned of revos attempt. I went to windows add remove programs and when I clicked on uninstall acronis AtI, it killed the add remove app. I now have no entry for acronis in the add remove app, or with revo. Iread on this forum that removing the temp files can help, which I did. I then tried to reinstall again, and it looked promising. It started as if a new install and asked for the serial, then after selecting the install options it started as normal. After a couple of passes of the green boxes showing progress it said "install has been interupted" and then just hung?????
Any help muchly appreciated.
Thanks

Scott Hieber wrote:IN the first place, it sounds like there is a problem with your windows system and that might be complicating things. You at least might want to chkdsk for disk errors with chkdsk before going any further, just to rule that out.
If you want to remove ATI and start installing it frrm scratch you can manually remove files and registry entries.
You might find this helpful:
http://forum.acronis.com/forum/15170
but the brief version is :
delete program files\Acronis
delete program files\common shared\Acronisin the registry search for and delete anything containing "Acronis" Trueimage" or "fomatik". It helps to use a decent registry tool like jv16 or such rather than the crude regedit that comes ith windows.
Afterwards, delete all the files temporary files and then reboot. Then I'd do a backup with the bootcd, jsut for safety. Then, use msconfig to turn off all mon microsoft services and all astartup proglrams (you can google msconfig to find out particulars on its use). Then reboot and try to install.
Hi Scott and thanks for the response. Before I read your response I did delete as much stuff as i could find, and I managed to install it, even though it took about 30 minutes to install. Problem is when i open ATI 11 the little progress bar in the bottom left of the opening screen stalls when it finishes checking c partition and starts on D (my D drive is 2nd hard drive) If you continue anyway and try to backup it freezes part way through the wizard. I backed up the c drive using the ATI boot disc ok, and was about to restore an earlier backup to my c drive. To make sure there was no confusion with which drive (c or d) I was restoring to, I pulled the data connector from the D drive and rebooted to make sure I disconnected the correct one. GUESS WHAT WITH D DRIVE DISCONNECTED Acronis opens and runs as per normal. Sorry for shouting, BUT sometime ago I remember having to turn some windows service off to get ATI to work previously with my new second hard drive (would it be something about file sync, comparison, or a network file compare service of some sort??????) I remember asking before on this forum when i installed the second hard drive, but its so long ago its gone. This windows service is probably running again after a windows xp reair, mind you Ive never seen a successful system repair yet. Sorry about the long winded reply. Is it "distributed link tracking client" and yes I have a network of 5 pcs, nas, 3 printers, 2 routers, etc.
Thanks again

Hi again,
Further to my last post, I disabled "distributed link tracking client" reinstalled ATI 11, which took about 2 minutes, and it works perfectly, with both drives. Thank you. Now well see how good the xp repair is?????.

AT this point, I'd make a backup and then go through the steps of a restore up to but not including the final proceed. Also, At least this once, validate the backup in ATI. This will give you assurance that you will be able to restore.
good luck,
sh
