Uninstall method for Acronis TI 2010 not clear

Thread needs solution

I had very bad experieces when trying to install Acronis TI 2010 on my new Windows 7 X 64 bit Compaq computer and I decided to uninstall. However that process did not seems to be fully accomplished through MS Windows since there were residues such as desktop icons and entries in the available programs list. Searching the knowledge base confused me with talk of tools etc. when I thought there would be aan arrangement between Microsoft and Acronis to achieve this through Windows. Any help please?

Normally, you should find Acronis TrueImage listed in the Add/remove programs listing.

As you have already attempted in to uninstall once, it may not be listed there anymore and you will have to use a registry cleaner to remove remaining remnants. The free cCleaner utility may clean enough but you still may have to manually delete the desktop icons and program file folders.

Thank you for your advice GroverH. As far as I can remember Acronis was listed in the programs available for uninstall. In fact I would almost certainly not have been able to proceed l had it not been because one selects from the list and issues the uninstall command to my limited experience. I so wish I didn't have to follow specal instuctions and use cleaners when the two companies Microsoft and Acronis claim compatibility between Acronis TI 2010 and Windows 7.

Further to my last post having reread GroverH's advice I belatedly noiced the link he kindly gave me to a clean up utility. Unfortunately this was not for TI home 2010, the program I tried to uninstall, but for a 2011 version. Then when I found a reference to the appropriate TI home 2010 utility I was then told that I cannot have it as MS thinks it has technical problems. I do hope malicious remnants are not lurking in my machine!

I am not sure about the propriety of keeping on posting messages on one's own question, but I am risking it as my stiuation has moved on. Since uninstall by the normal Windows route left residues, and the Acronis-authored tool to remove TI Home 2010 was not available, I tried Windows System restore. Not fully understanding what restore point was which, I first restored to the point where Ihad installed the original boxed Acconis TI and this gave Windows a very hard time with an eventual restore after several screens full of dire warnings. I did it again to an earlier point before which I couldnot possibly have installed anything Acronis on my new machine and it all went through like a dream. Except that Acronis was still in the programs list on the start menu! I deleted that and crossed my fingers!
