Uninstalling ATI 2010 (due to update problems - actual goal is to update the program)
Win7 / ATI Home 2010
hello,
as stated, I would like to completely uninstall the program in order to try to update it (which as always proves to be nightmare).
I found all kind of information but no up-to-date info how to manually and competely uninstall ATI home 2010. Somewhere it said the cleanup utility is no longer provided, yet I found it downloadable from some link in a post of an Acronis support person (http://forum.acronis.com/forum/6359).
Using the Windows uninstaller does not work, I get an error. This is thanks to the usual problems when trying to update (not user-caused!).
Please, to get started, tell me how to uninstall manually. At the left, there is a "true imate home faq". this obviously has no references to ATI 2010. this i find disturbing. that's so time-wasting. I expect when I click the FAQ that I get a section on ATI 2010, with up-to-date references on how to manually uninstall.
thanks! =)

Hello Scot, I have already read this thread. Thanks anyway.
The kb article ond Devcon does not mention Windows 7 and I am not going to put stuff into the windows system folder that MS does not declare for this use. I also ppl mentioning problems trying to use devcon with win7, cf. google.
=> Acronis, please help. This is not my fault and I am unable to use your program. I cannot update it and I cannot remove it and I cannot use the currently installed older version (it will no longer run). This is really really disappointing. I paid for this.

FYI, on German IT website heise.de, it is mentioned that with much effort on can obtain a win7-compatible devcon. I am NOT going to do this without Acronis approving of this.
http://www.heise.de/ct/hotline/devcon-fuer-Windows-7-1201437.html

So as I now see it devcon is not needed. However, MSICUU2.exe (for msizap.exe) IS needed. And at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us
I am confronted with the fact that it is NO LONGER available and I should contact the software developer, i.e. Acronis.
This is simply incredible.

One option might be to use the free "Revo uniinstaller" which seems to work very well.
http://download.cnet.com/Revo-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10687648.html
Start Revo and see if TrueImage is listed as a removal option. Always best to have a full backups before removing anything so you have a "fall back" plan if something goes wrong.

Hi GroverH,
thanks for your effort.
I will resort to Revo only as a last option. I will wait for Acronis to reply, or even pay them to reply so I can get rid of it. I really gave this
software many chances. Such a pity.
How could I do a full backup when Acronis is still installed but will not work? --> I have already downloaded Norton Ghost 15, but this had problems even worse than Acronis. Note that my system is perfectly stable and well-managed. I don't if Ghosts problem's have to do with the still-installed Acronis. The problems I can into with Ghost right after installation are too many to list. It even froze my mouse pointer, error messages etc. In fact I indeed believe it likely has to do with Acronis. I read positive reviews about Ghost but there were many points that left me disappointed.
I now plan to try Macrium Reflect. It would not be the first time that a software not commonly known surpasses the popular ones. Still wondering if I should try installting it BEFORE uninstalling Acronis, but I have no other chance, since I fear uninstalling Acronis may just as well cause severe problems - so I have read in this forum (BSODs etc.).
I was also shocked when I read in in the changelog that Acronis has not been saving the Roaming folder. WTF!! That's a catastrophe! I will always use TWO different imaging software from now on, alternate, and always do freuqent complete full disk images, with no bells and whizzles. One cannot rely on anyone in the "security" market, obviously. What a shame

Matthias,
Should you want a backup, one can be created using the user created Rescue CD and if that should not see your disks, then an alternate Rescue CD can be downloaded from your registration page--assuming you have an English version of TI installed. If another language version installed, an alternate is most likely available by contacting support. A backup created via the Rescue CD does not require a working TI or even Windows.
Usually, only one backup imaging program can work without issues. If two installed, too many conflicts and neither will work satisfactorily. Revo is an easy and quick solution for removing version 2010. For 2011 or 2009, the TI cleanup utility will usually suffice.
If you have some spare reading time, check out item #12 in my signature index below. Item 12 is how some others use a mix of solution to cover their backup needs.
All my TI backups (full plus differentials) are of the disk type. This means anything on the disk that changes is covered in my next backup.
If you are looking for official assistance by Acronis, you will need to fill out a support request and if using 2010 which is not the current version, you should try the "online CHAT option. For more info about support, check out the item (Getting Support) listed along the left margin under "Useful Links."

Hello Grover,
thanks a lot.
I installed Revo but I decided not to use it when I looked through the many items it would want to remove from the registry, I fear that problems might occur. I simply don't like the idea of uninstalling a non-trivial program like acronis in such a way, without the explicit approval of the developer so I won't ruin my machine.
Oh, and I installed paragon drive copy 11 prof and was able to backup my complete hdd without problems despite acronis installed. I did not
use a "hot" backup process, i.e. the windows was not booted. That way I tried to avoid any potential conflicts with acronis.
So, Acronis staff, you are still welcome to reply here, before I will contact you directly in four day's time on Friday.
thanks,
matthias

Hello all,
Thank you for posting and your kind help.
Matthias, please let me offer you additional assistance with manual uninstallation.
You can always create a backup of your system using the bootable media and then try removing ATIH 2010 using Revo. I can also recommend the following instructions for uninstalling ATIH 2010 manually:
1. Remove Acronis Secure Zone
2. Remove Acronis True Image Backup Archive Explorer.
3. Remove Acronis SnapAPI drivers.
4. Unregister Scheduler Service:
Download Acronis Scheduler Manager (http://download.acronis.com/support/schedmgr.exe), run it (double-click on it) and execute the below commands:
* service stop
* service uninstall
* exit
5. Open Windows Task Manager and stop the TrueImageMonitor.exe process
6. Run regedit and delete the following registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Acronis
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.tib
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.tis
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\tibfile
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\tisfile
7. Delete TrueImageMonitor.exe value from:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Delete \Program Files\Acronis folder
Delete \Program Files\Common Files\Acronis folder
Delete \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis folder
Delete \WINDOWS\system32\autoprnt.exe if it exists
Delete shortcuts from Desktop and Start menu
8. Reboot the computer.
If after this you will have difficulties with updating the program you can always get back to us or contact our Support team directly for immediate help with these reports:
1. AcronisInfo.
2. .Msi log.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

Matthias,
If you decide to use Revo, I have used the program and it worked without issues. Yes, it deleted a whole bunch of stuff but it did work without issues on my XP Prp sp3 system. As Anton mentioned, it is important that you take the time to do a backup so you have a "fallback" plan if something goes wrong. The Rescue CD can also be used to create the backup.
