universal recovery from AMD to Intel processor- having problem

Thread needs solution

I did a universal recovery from and AMD CPU 6 core processor (AMD 3) to a new Intel i7 8 core processor. The transfer went smoothly with new drivers etc.

The problem is the motherboard video will not work correctly! In my searching for the problem I find in the registry that there are many reference to my old AMD processor.

the transfer went well expect it did not recognize the new processor.

What should I do now? I could do a new universal recovery with my new but crippled operating system but what new information do I need to give to the TI 2012 universal recovery program to make it work properly?

Anyone have ideas?

Video drivers are not modified by Universal Restore. Delete old video drivers manually, install new drivers. Control/utilities software for the old video card that starts after boot may work improperly with the new video card too.

Welcome Uncle Jac,
In addition to dev-anon's comments, may I also suggest that you uninstall the AMD listed processors in Device Manager, and get the correct Intel processor drivers installed before loading new vid drivers.

Computer properties should show the correct CPU you have installed on your machine. However, Device Manager reads a registry string that may not update unless forced to do so. Although it's more cosmetic, I personally would make the change since video performance can be closely coupled to the type of CPU installed. New chipset drivers might also be appropriate just to be sure all devices are correctly identified and working together.

Thanks for the reply, I am sorry I did not make my self clear

I have tried with and without the video driver, actually the machine runs better without the video driver but the real problem is the cpu driver

when I did the universal recovery I included the new motherboard chipset drivers, but the machine ran slow so:

I checked around the machine and saw that the registry had this line -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Processor \driverpackageid\cpu.inf_amd64_neutral_ae5de2e1bf2793c3

I am not using an AMD processor, that processor was in my old machine, I am now using an Intel i7 processor
The Device manager says I am using an i7 processor in all 8 cores

Anyway, I tried your idea about deleting the processors in device manager and then rebooting. Now the problem is I have no processors and instead have 8 'unknown'
When I try to install the drives for the unknown I get the message seen in the window included in the file attachment 'cpu finding error'

I have download the most recent Intel inf file and installed

I am at a loss! Please help

If the processor was identified in DM correctly, why did you uninstall?

Have a look at this KB Article

Not typically used with a new MB, but you should be able to get it working.

Also, if it is a sandybridge processor, you might need the appropriate intel graphics media accelerator driver for the version of onboard graphics built into the processor (If Applicable)

The problem in in the registry, it says I have the wrong CPU

It will not allow the graphic driver for my Ivybridge CPU to be installed

The device manager said the correct thing but the registry did not and was causing the problem

Now when I try to manually update the processor I get the error message as shown in my attachment above

When I install the graphics driver it does not work - see my attachment this message

Hi,

Overcoming these issues can be challenging. The architectural differences between the processors is significant.  Working in SAFE Mode might help
