Universal Restore not needed? ACPI x64-based PC

Thread needs solution

The source machine (desktop) and target machine (laptop) both use the same (Windows 7) HAL "ACPI x64-based PC"
and I have installed the target machine's mass storage drivers (intel) on the source machine before imaging.

Does that mean I do not need Universal Restore?

Possibly. A successful restore depends on certain low-level drivers like the main disk controller, other peripheral controllers/chipset. It looks like you would have one pre-installed. Would there be another one? You don't risk much trying, if you do a backup of your target computer beforehand.

If it fails, you might still be able to pull it off with a repair install of Win7.

In this process, the similarity of the motherboard of both machines is essential to succeed without UR.

Babac is right. When you say you installed the drivers for the mass storage, it won't be enough to install Intel Storage Manager, for example. I don't think you can install a disk driver manually within Windows.
If you don't have the right disk controller driver in your image (most likely if the computer are different), your computer will most likely blue screen on reboot. A this point, you can try to repair install Windows and it might work (I never tried this myself). If this fails, your best bet is Universal Restore (although it is not as easy as it sounds), short of reinstalling windows and all your programs from a blank disk.
