Universal restore questions

Thread needs solution

Running ATI 12 with Plus Pack

Hello,

I'm planning to move my current PC disk with Win7 32 bits to a new PC, but I don't know yet whether the new PC will be running Win7 32 or 64 bits. So, I would have 2 questions related to Universal restore:

- If the new PC is running Win7 32 bits, same as my current installation, will I be able after restoring to re-introduce MS Windows 7 existing registration key on the new PC? As I'll need to keep my current PC as is. I mean, the new PC will have Win7 running already with its own registration key. If I restore to it my current installation it will inherit my current PC's Windows registration key - will I be able to re-register the existing key?

- If the new PC is running Win 64 bits, is it possible to Universal restore to it my current programs running under 32bits or would I need to re-install them?

In advance many thanks for any input.

32-bit Windows and 64-bit Windows are different OS. If you restore a backup image of 32-bit Windows, you will have 32-bit Windows. A disk restore wipes out everything on the disk (or partition), so if you restore 32-bit Windows then anything on the disk before the restore, such as 64-bit Windows, will be gone.

If you want to keep 64-bit Windows, then yes you'd need to install your applications. You could still restore your user files from the backup image.

Thanks a lot for your feedback!

What about my first question: if I restore Win 32 to the new PC he'll get my current Win keys. Will I be able to change them back to the new PC's current Windows installation (by using the sticker at back of the PC)?

I'm not sure how that works.
