Universal Restore questions

Thread needs solution

Hello all,

Here's my situation: I had to change out a motherboard, so clearly, I'm effectively putting my old OS on a new computer. The system drive itself is still good. I'm not clear on the best way to proceed here:

Should I just install my old drive in the new computer, and then run Universal Restore from there? I'm reluctant to do that, because I want to keep the old drive "pristine", just in case. Should I install a fresh copy of the OS on a new drive in this new system, and then restore from my Acronis backup?

Is the bootable media intended to help me after I restore from my backup onto this new computer, or before I restore? I'm probably just missing something, but the instructions don't seem clear to me.

Thanks.

Hi Jon,
From my experience, you can simply install the new HDD and run the restore directly to it. ATI will take care of formatting etc. I've done this a number of times when converting an HDD to a SSD. The resultant OS is identical to the source. After a reboot, Windows(I presume) will optionally install whatever drivers it needs to support the new HDD. In theory Windows should see the change in hardware. Keep your old HDD as a backup backup.. :)
