Unsupported file

Thread needs solution

Hello all
I just tried to restore backups created in True Image 2010 using the TI 2010 boot disk.
I have 3 backups, and for all of them, when I tried to restore I received the message

Unsupported file.
Error while opening the archive file.
The archive format format is not supported by this operation.

The backups were created as .tib files from TI 2010.
Can anyone advise me what is wrong ?
TIA

Are you trying to mount the backup archive?

I am booting my pc with the Acronis boot disc created from within True Image 2010.
I wish to restore to my first hdd, Windows XP Pro.
I then navigate to the backup .tib files on a second internal hdd and tell the program
to restore them (one at a time, naturally).
As far as I can see, there is no mention on the boot disk of mounting.

OK. What do you mean by "one at a time, naturally"?

Ah, I don't really know what I meant by that, I can only put it down to
senility and severe finger problems.
What I should have said was that I tried to restore all three, one after another, and got the same
error message after each.
The first was a basic XP installation, the second contained the basic installation plus some graphics apps, and the
third contained other programs as well.

Could it be that you are trying to restore a disk and you select a file backup?

I meant, after you selected disk restore, is there any risk you are selecting a TIB file created by a file backup task?

Are you using encryption in the backups?

Were the backups created by the same version of ATI?

Do the backup files validate?

Thanks for the reply.
I have only ever done a full partition backup.
No encryption.
Yes, TI 2010.
Cannot validate because I cannot now install TI2010.
Because of this, I am now raising this whole affair with technical support.
Thanks anyway.

Just tried to send problem to technical support and found that my version is not
supported any more, so here is what I was going to tell them about the installation:

I do not know if the files validate. I had great difficulty installing TI 2010, and kept getting the message
The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image could be installed.
You need to restart the installer to try again.
I eventually managed to install, but when I tried to examine or mount the backup I was informed that
it was not a True Image backup file.

If I tried to validate I was informed that parts of the program were not installed, and to reinstall.

I uninstalled and tried to reinstall again, but have been unable to, each time I get the message
about the installation being interrupted.

Trying to install in safe mode led to the following message:
E00640003:The error was encountered while the installation.
Acronis installation program encountered the error #1625: "This installation is
forbidden by system policy. Contact your system administrator (0xFFF0)
code = 80070659
Tag = 0xBD28FDBD64EDB8A6"
A possible reason might be that you do not have enough privileges. Please
check the installation troubleshooting section of the product documentation.

You can validate a TIB file from the recovery CD. You don't need to install ATI 2010 to recover.

I am not sure why Acronis doesn't install in Windows.

If you are a system administrator, and you are using the latest build of 2010 (check on your Acronis.com account), that's should be good.

You won't be able to install in safe mode, but you can install in a clean boot environment to limit potential third party software conflicts.
- launch msconfig
- go to the services tab, uncheck hide microsoft services at the bottom of the window, then click on select all, then check hide microsoft services, and then click unselect all. This way, only microsoft services will load.
- go to the startup tab, and unselect all.
- close msconfig
- reboot
- run the installer. If that succeeds, you can set the msconfig settings back to where they were.

Thanks again for the reply.
Unfortunately, I now have a further problem.
When I boot into TI2010 from the recovery CD I get a message flashed
up something about an error with shared libraries. It shows for such a short
time that I am unable to read any more of it.
When I do boot into TI from the recovery CD, there is no Validate option, and whatever
I try to do leads to the program freezing for about 30 seconds and then rebooting.
I don't know what is going on. I will probably wipe the hdd and reinstall from scratch.
After that I will have to see what can be done about backing up.
Seems very strange, I have used TI from version 2007 onwards and had no problems
at all.

The shared libraries comment is not really an error. It is a statement of information and can be ignored.

The below shows how to validate using the CD. Advise if you do not have this function. -----------------------------------------------

GroverH - thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, as I said in my original post, when I select a backup I get the message
Unsupported file.
Error while opening the archive file.
The archive format format is not supported by this operation.
So I am unable to go any farther.

Stuart,

Reading your installation problems, are you trying to use ATI on Windows 7?
