Updated to new 2012 --- not work --- now in splash screen

Thread needs solution

Okay.

wife''s new Dell Inspiron 4 GB ACronis True Home 2012.

Went to back up today and was told update available. I installed.

Tried to run update on 1st external "told insert last media...."

Tried second drive same thing. Tried to kill true Image 2012 through Task Manager and said restart.

Now hung at start screen to one hour saying "operations in progress .... will shut down when complete."

Great except backup is NOT working!!! Error message is "calculating", before I tried shutdown.

Now even safe mode won't work ---- keeps coming back to "operations in progress....."

Previous version of 2012 worked!

Oh, yeah the first "problem" drive backed up fine on 2010 and other machine.

How do I recover from something that won't complete?

Boy, does Win7 suck, as I have no startup disk, although I have the Acronis 2012 recovery disk.

Previous backup is 3 weeks old.

Please inform.

Welcome John/Jack,
It doesn't sound like you got a clean install or good upgrade. You have a few options.

Attempt a repair install of 2012 from windows Programs & Features applet.

However, I'd recommend a clean install of build 7119.

Its good you already have a known good back up image of your system.

Start by downloading the build 7119 installer from your Acronis User Acct.
https://www.acronis.com/my/products/

Then download the 2012 clean up utility here:
http://forum.acronis.com/forum/29352

If you have tasks you wish to save, you can export them (optional)

Uninstall the existing version using windows Program & Features. Now run the clean up utility and FOLLOW all instructions in the thread.. Reboot and perform a clean install of 7119. Reimport your tasks if applicable.

Post back with your results.

After 2 hours, the "process" completed and was shutdown.

I uninstalled the latest and re-installed the previous version.

Backup worked on "problem" drive.

However, having used Acronis since version 8, could it be too complicated for the average person?

I want to do full backups every month using several different externals, so I don not want incremental backups, monthly verifies, etc, and it is hard to see how to change that. Also "my backups" as a default location is incredibly demeaning.

Thanks to all.

Cheers, Jack

John,

Unfortunately, with the recent versions, you cannot decide manually when to start a new full backup. Everything is "automated" in the auto-cleaning retention rules in the backup settings.
To trigger a new full backup in a backup task, you have to move the existing TIB files manually to another directory on the same disk (to avoid a long copy). This will force ATI to create a full the next time you run the task.
