Upgrade to 6514 fails

Thread needs solution

I got prompted to install the latest upgrade and it ran for a long time and then failed.

I then closed all active visible tasks and reinstalled - it failed again - there is no useful info about why it failed.

Do you have the Plus Pack? If yes, uninstall the Plus Pack, uninstall ATI, the reinstall ATI, then the Plus Pack.

Bob R,

Are you installing via the installer file downloaded from your account or via the installed TI update feature? If the latter, download th einstaller file from your Acronis account and install from that.

Having much the same issue installing build 6514 update to build 5551. This line from the msi.txt file is shown in the error window after rollback:

MSI (s) (3C:10) [10:01:42:328]: Product: True Image 2013 -- Error 1904. Module D:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\backup_cpl_control.dll failed to register. HRESULT -1073741819. Contact your support personnel.

I have used the update from within the True Image 2013 UI and from the downloaded file. The same error occurs with both methods.

The entire trueimage.msi.txt file is attached in a zip file.

Tom,

Is your build 5551 installed on D:?

You could try and perform a repair install of 2013 build 5551 first, then try the upgrade again to see if your results are the same.

There may be an issue with build 6514 being installed into a non-default location, but that is just a guess on my part, as I have not attempted it on any of my systems.

Be sure to also check your security permissions on the D: folder mentioned in your post.

James,

Thank you for your interest in my issue.

Yes, the 5551 build is installed on D: (as are virtually all applications installed on this computer.) The error appears to be the registration of a module that had been successfully registered in the past version.

One would think if there were an issue with this version installing in the not-default location, it would appear much earlier in the installation process.

I'll keep an eye on the forum to see if anyone else might have encountered this issue.

After reading the release notes of this build the upgrade is not that critical to my installation. This is just one of those frustrating situations that I'd like to get resolved.

[Back to my question]

So far I've only been doing to the upgrade from the prompt within True Image.

I had an idea, I've been having ongoing problems with opening windows folders and My Computer hanging, and having to terminate and restart Explorer. My suspicions are with ADM.EXE (Acronis DIsk Monitor). I ctrl+alt+deleted ADM.EXE and ran the upgrade from within True Image. The update for some reason, always triggers Spiceworks http://www.spiceworks.com/ and Breevy http://www.16software.com/breevy/ to start and display themselves, but I just close them.

The upgrade also takes a long time to run- probably around 30 minutes and today it completed without errors- my guess is that it was ADM.EXE causing the problem. Since I just rebooted - I have to wait and see if all is working.
