upgrade path to a usable build?

Thread needs solution

Hi

I have never had to use the Acronis forums before having been extremely happy with the previous versions I have used.

Currently using:
Acronis True Image Workstation® with Acronis Universal Restore® version 9.1 (build 3,718)
and
Acronis Disk Director Suite® version 10.0 (build 2,160)

OS-wise, I have stayed with XP Pro and skipped vista but now found myself needing a version of these that run (properly) with Windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

This is where it now seems tricky - I have lost the plot with regard to the version naming conventions and from what I've seen/read all is not well with longterm users and current GUI changes and functionality.

My needs are basic:
Disk partitioning through disk director
&
Do not need ongoing data backups, merely periodic full OS back-up, validation, burn to DVD / copy to external HD and then periodic system restore.

Is it still possible to upgrade to a stable version (with the old GUI) that supports latest Windows 7 64 bit?

I have always been pleased with how the old versions ran but when I went to amazon and saw the reviews of the latest version I thought I'd better hold off or look for an alternative, then came here and saw:
"I can simply not recommend 2011 to any of my Customers - the lack of a simple task and log screen to immediately see any issues is unforgiveable..

I tell people to ONLY install ATI Home 2010 build 7046 - it may not be perfect - but it works and logically too."

If anyone can advise I would be most grateful...

Thanks.

I don't think there is an upgrade available to move from the Workstation (business) version to the Home version. TI 2011 has a completely different GUI and a lot of people don't like it. You may be able to find TI 2010 for sale somewhere, but understand that support won't be lasting too long since TI 2012 will be out this Fall (going by past releases).

Backup & Recovery Workstation 10 would be the normal upgrade. However, it too is very different from Workstation and Echo.

DD 11 Home is the upgrade from DD 10. Additionally, you may want to look at DD 11 Advanced Workstation.

I would suggest that you run a trial of the software before deciding if you want to buy it or not. Make sure to create a backup of the drive before installing the new versions (makes it easier to revert, if necessary).

MudCrab,

Thank you for those pointers that is really helpful.

It occurred to me just after posting that it may not be in the right place... sorry if that is the case.

That link you posted led me to:

Which lays it out in a nice table - and now I know why I am confused!

"DD 11 Home is the upgrade from DD 10. Additionally, you may want to look at DD 11 Advanced Workstation."
Yeah, but oddly the advanced workstation does not allow you to install multiple OSs but the home edition does.

...and as for the back-up and recovery version comparison table at:

Maybe it's time I just returned to an abacus.

Was reading about societies the other day and an argument that as they become more advanced they become more complex and as the complexity increases so does fragility. Eventually they advance so much they just collapse - chaos in action.
Something I've noticed over time is that great software gradually gets improved to the point where it doesn't really work any more (or becomes bloatware) - hope that isn't what they've done to Acronis.

"I would suggest that you run a trial of the software before deciding if you want to buy it or not."

Yeah - just need to find a back-up solution I can trust while I test out the back-up solution!

Cheers
