Upgraded to 2014 - lost all old backup tasks... solutions?

Thread needs solution

Experimentally installed upgrade 2014 Premium from 2010 Home edition, and lost all my old backup tasks.

Is it really true that the upgrade process abandons all the old tasks or have I missed something in the upgrade process (which required uninstalling the earlier version)?

Do I really have to spend the entire weekend trying to recover / recreate the original backup tasks?

Is there a solution other than reverting to the previous edition (yes, I did make a full image backup before starting this nonsense)?

All polite suggestions welcome.

Another point about the upgrade process - it asked me to uninstall the old version before allowing the upgrade. I suspect this is the cause of the problem???

Depending upon what you want to do.

If you want to keep 2014, your only choice is to create new tasks.
If you want to revert to 2010, restore a backup. or,
run a TrueImage cleanup utility (link 4 below) and then re-install version 2010.

During the installation of 2014, the loss of the backup task was not withiin your control.
the 2010 was removed and the 2014 took its place.

Much much difference between 2010 and 2014 so the backup tasks, if kept, would not have been cotinuable.

It would be beneficial if you invested some time reading signature link 2 below.

Create a new backup scheme which has options such as "automatiac cleanup" and "store no more than X recent versions" so the deletion of old backups is automatic based on your setting of how many x to keep. An example of this scheme is inside the link illustration 11-Full or 11-Inc or 11-Full.

Editing of ongoing tasks is discouraged and any deletion of old backups should be done within the program.

I now remember this is why I resisted the upgrade for so many years.
Obviously I would not have read your links beforehand because I'm not a frequent visitor.

And I did make a full system backup and restore point yesterday, before entering this nonsense.

I will now have to restore it and make notes of the old tasks, maybe try all this again in a few months when I have the time and patience to go through it thoroughly.

(It should be noted that in the pdf user guide it refers to an upgrade as "If you already have True Image installed, the new version will simply update it; there is no need to remove the old version and reinstall the software." This appears to be false and misleading.)

I have a related but not identical question. I have Acronis True Image Home 2011, and I just downloaded the UPGRADE to ATIH 2014. I cannot find documentation on how to perform the upgrade. What I have gleaned from various postings is that I need to:

1. Do a full backup with ATIH11 to make sure I have everything.
2. Uninstall ATIH11
3. Install ATIH14, in which case:
a) I will need to supply both my old ATIH11 and my new ATIH14 serial numbers
b) I will lose all my tasks, settings, etc. that were set in ATIH11, and will have to recreate them in ATIH14
c) I will be able to open the ATIH11-generated backup file with ATIH14

Have I got that right?

Yes, procedure is correct except I would use the cleanup tool instead of the uninstall. See signature link 4 below.

Do change your desripton of the software . Do NOT use ATH11 or ATIH14. Use ATIH2011 and ATIH2014 so those helping you will correctly understand which version you have.

There is many many many differences wtih 2014. Before you do anything, do some research starting with

GroverH -

Thanks for your help and suggestions, but holy cow! When I read the instructions, with all its do's & don'ts, follow this instruction but not that one, etc. for the Cleanup Tool I was instantly transported back to the early days of Windows, hacking the Registry to clean up bits & pieces left by poorly written uninstall programs, etc. If these steps are known well enough to write these instructions, couldn't they write the code to have the Cleanup Tool - or better yet the uninstall program - perform them automatically? This gives me serious doubts about Acronis as a mature product. Perhaps I should ask for my $20 back and stick with ATIH2011.

BEFORE ANYTHING make a copy of the Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder

This holds your current scripts, its in the Program Files/Programmes Data or similar location depending on your version of Windows.

Each script is in a ...tis format.
Just edit the suffix and change from .tis to .txt or .rtf and read it in any text editor, wordpad, whatever.

It's a simple code script.
If you read it carefully you will see the key content of your scripts, such as the files and folders you were backing up, the description comment you entered and the destination file and its location.

You still have to recreate your scripts but at least these will help you remember what you'd set up.

There is another recovery method for 2014, reading the settings of your latest back, but it's not complete or perfect and a clean start may be better.

Keep copies of your scripts for such recoveries in the future.

You might also consider using the import/export backup settings utility located in the TI Tools and Utilities Options. Here's a link:
