Upgrading Version and Understanding
Hello all. This is my first post here so if I placed in the wrong place, please excuse me.
The history is as follows: I have been asked by a little business to watch the job done by the old IT that worked there. I have found two things: he was using a very old version of Acronis Server (can not remember the exact name but does not matter), I would like to upgrade to a new version but I must mantain the incremental backups. My question is, if I upgrade the version of Acronis Backup to a newer one, create a new incremental backup job; will this job mantain the "incremental" of the previous runs?
The second one is that the other IT made a daily backup of data (incremental) and a weekly backup of data (diferential), never have done a new full backup. My question now is, should I delete the weekly backup task and work only with the daily, create a new full every month and delete all previous for example every six months? Will this mantain backup integrity?
I hope I explained myself well enough.
Thanks in advance.

David,
Should you end up using TrueImage 2013, my suggestion would be to avoid manual backup deletion but have the program do it automatically as part of routine maintenance.
Depending upon which type backup you use (Full; or Full with increments; or Full with differential), these can be set up for automatic cleaning.
Click on signature link #2 below which covers how to create a backup task (all backup originate from a task), and look particularly at illustration figure 11-Full and 11-Inc and 11-Dif. These 3 illustrations show the basics on how to set up a custom backup scheme so the program will do its own deletion. As new backup chains are added, old backup chains are auto deleted.
Illustration 4 & 5 also within that link illustrates how to select the entire disk for backup so a complete disk image is included within the disk & partition backup.

Thank you for your quick response, is my first job as a IT manager and I am a bit afraid because there is job already done but not as well done as should be.
The version of the software is Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server 8.
I will have a look at your explanations as soon as possible.
Maybe I will have more questions after reading this.

OK, I read (and think understood) the backup scheme you said.
By the way I have another two questions:
1. If I am not wrong the weekly backup is doing nothing because a incremental daily backup is being done. The problem is that there is not a full backup schedule anywhere. BUT I propose the following case:
full backup 31/12/99
A file is modified 01/01/01
daily backup 01/01/01
A file is deleted [BY ERROR] 02/01/01
full and daily backup until next full, 5 or 6 times so first full is deleted by backup rotation scheme
01/01/02 User noticies that file A is not there.
This case could be real, my company has files that are only modified once a year. In this case of rotation file A could not be restored, right? Because first full (where file A was) and incrementals until second full are deleted too.
Tell me if I am wrong. I must be sure of some things before doing any change.
Thank you again.
