USB Boot letter problem

Thread needs solution

Hi guys, I really hope someone can help me with this issue. I have a Netbook that has 1 sata drive and NO CD/DVD Drive. I have successfully managed to create the Acronis bootable USB drive with the True Image Home 2010 software on it. I have successfully booted my netbook into Acronis and started to restore the contents of the C: drive. However, I now have a major problem. When I look at the options on restoring, the C: drive is the USB key and what was the original C: drive has now been relabelled to the D: drive. So, when I reboot, without the key in, there is no C: drive.

Is there any way of assigning a different drive letter (Other than C:) to the bootable USB key?

FYI. When I restore the parameters show that the drive letter will change from C: > D: when restore is complete.

The "drive letters" are irrelevant. You should give all of your partitions meaningful names, and go by these. The "drive letters" are most often different when running off any form of bootable media. A "drive letter" is assigned by the OS and has no real meaning outside of the OS which assigned it. Partition names are what is associated with a particular partition - not a "drive letter".

Hello,

Gary, thanks for your help, you are absolutely correct.

Geoff, Gary's right. The full version of Acronis Bootable Rescue Media uses Linux environment. This results in the default Linux letter assignment rules, which may be different from the ones in Windows.

This is a standard behavior. It does not mean that the drive letters in Windows have been changed.
