USB-drive not found, but... well... I see it

Thread needs solution

I'm doing backups on a USB-drive H:\My-Backups\ on Win7 64-bit. This worked fine so far.

Some days ago I put a SD-Card into the computer, which made the SD-Card become drive H: and the USB-drive I: I went into the computer-administration and changed the drive-letter for the USB-drive back to H.

Now something strange is happening:
- I can go to drive H: via windows-explorer without problems
- I can access H: on a console
- I can use True Image -> Backup -> Context menu -> Open location to let me show the backup-location

But: I cannot do backups anymore, True Image is saying that the location is not found.

Hu? I'm a bit lost here, restarting the computer didn't help and I have no idea if the problem is connected to the change of the drive-letters. Any ideas?

Try disabling the card reader (these can cause problems with TI anyway), see if the 'H' drive comes back, if it does, try making the drive letter permanent for this drive and then reenable the card reader, it should now auto take the next drive letter available. If the drive disappears again or TI becomes confused, then there may not be any easy way around it.

Martho,
TrueImage records considerable ID info about the backup hard drive. There is a good chance, the current disk info differs from what it had when the backup task was created. Your best chance for a solution would probably be to stop using the old task and create a new task.

Before you do that, take the time to assign a new higher drive letter to the target disk. Use a letter such as x or y or z., etc. Assigning a higher drive letter will help to prevent a repeat of what has happened should you insert a new flash drive, camera or usb printer, etc. Also, when createing the new task, point the task to a new sub-folder so you avoid the mixing of old backups with new backups.

Creating a new task is a better solution than changing the settings on an old task as editing has shown to produce unexpected results. The old backups files will continue to be usable so do not delete until space requirements dictate.
