User of Acronis 9 and 11

Thread needs solution

When I first purchased acronis 9 and later 11, I found them to be a reliable and fairly simple way to do fast full recovery images. I liked the fact that you could do do images from Windows. The last 4 years have been frustrating. For one, viruses, worms, and trojans have figured out how to mess with drive letters on c drives or image files which means they can completely cripple an imaging system. But what is worse is that on reinstallations after crashes I am finding Acronis 11 even with the latest update 11.8101_s_en is no longer reliable even when hard drives are thoroughly checked out and reformatted and repartitioned. On my backup desktop computer for example I am simply reusing a older lightly used PATA Maxtor 250 Gb harddrive that worked fine in the past. I checked it with spinrite, ran the Seagate seatools utility designed to check it out. It passes the tests. Sea tools also checks out Smart Monitor, (the part that monitors when harddrives are starting to give errors) and says Smart Monitor has never tripped i.e, the drive is ok. Windows installed ok, but when I installed Acronis and run it I get an archive corrupted E00070020 Tag= 0xF5F8CBCF76155638 Now for those reading this, here is the question: this stuff worked for years reliably with 32 bit Windows XP Pro. This is all I am using. I tried to install a good 80 GByte hardrive on that desktop; same result: Windows installs OK, but Acronis reports file corruption. What gives?

This does not inspire confidence in Acronis. I am ready to purchase from someone else.

Hello Galen,

I am familiar with the issue you are experiencing and will do everything possible from my side to provide you with the complete resolution.

Without additional information I can’t be certain of the issue, please also take into consideration that the issue with corrupted backups requires several steps of troubleshooting. However from what you have told me this may be the possible solution:

I suggest you to renew SnapAPI module:

- Download SnapAPI update (this file can be applied to Acronis True Image 11 Home and Acronis True Image 10.0 Home only).

- Unpack the archive and run the SnapAPISetup.msi file;

- Go through the wizard screens and hit Proceed to install the update.

Wait for the process to be completed and reboot the computer. See if the issue remains. If the issue persists, please follow the below guide. The troubleshooting scheme will guide you through steps to find out whether the backups are detected as corrupt due to the machine's faulty hardware, or they get corrupted during data transfer from network or USB, or due to the faulty transfer cable, or if the issue is in Acronis True Image running in Windows, or if the issue is with Acronis Bootable Rescue Media.

Please create Acronis Booting Rescue Media. Acronis Booting Rescue Media is a standalone version of Acronis True Image 11 Home, burned onto a CD and based on a Linux operating system.  You can find out on how to create Acronis Booting Rescue Media on our web site at User Guide for Acronis True Image 11 Home available here (chapter 11)
Please select the source for the backup operations (for example, the system partition). The source should be the same one for all below operations.
1) Please create a backup file and store the archive to your internal hard drive. Verify the file by means of the Backup Archive Validation Wizard.
2) Please create a backup file and store the archive to your external hard drive. Verify the file by means of the Backup Archive Validation Wizard.
3) - Download a free checksum utility;
- Unpack and run the application. Browse and select the backup file stored to your internal hard disk;
- Click the "Start" button;
- Obtain MD5 value.
4) Copy (copy/paste) the file stored to your internal hard drive to your external hard drive. Run the free checksum utility, obtain MD 5 value for the copied backup file and compare the value with the previous one.
5) Insert Acronis Booting Rescue Media and reboot your computer. Please check in your computer's BIOS if booting from removable media (CD-ROM) is allowed and switched on.
6) Choose the Backup Wizard and create a backup file to your internal hard drive. Verify the file by means of the Backup Archive Validation Wizard.
7) Create a backup file to your external hard disk and verify the image.
Please provide us with the results. Please note that every step is important, please don't miss them.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

Was läuft bei mir falsch? Wer kann mir helfen? Bitte nur in deutsch antworten, ich verstehe kein englisch. Besten Dank im Voraus.
