Using ATI 2014 question
Hi I just hoping to get a quick question asked before I mess up my backs currently running.
I am using TI to make full backups of my Windows 7 pc and was wondering If I use same backup to make incremental daily backs to it by setting that up as a additional backup as opposed to just running just an incremental. I know I probably did not word this question right but I going to ask and answer questions to my question if needed or get some straight to question.

I am using the same backup now using an incremental type with it creating 5 backups and then a full backup so it made the incremental back after one day since first backup which has 2 Windows partitions on one disk.
The approx 800gb full backup I have took 3 hours to do on the default backup setting and the incremental which did not have much going on that day was 2gb and took awhile to prepare maybe 10 mins but incremental backup just took a few mins to do.
This looks to be a good way to do what I wanted nightly backups so I have the system backup no more than a day old but not want to keep doing full backups to update.
If after 5 days and it consolidates the backups with no problem that would be great. I assume I can click on one of my incremental backups and it would restore the backup from that point which might be good if system get a virus and I can try to rollback the system to that backup.
I have always used manual backups they seem to work the best for me
Perdido Beach I see you doing pretty much as same with your backup scheme. I just not opted for a second backup but I will copy my backups that are on one of my main computer hard drives to my new Seagate 5TB USB 3.0 for redundancy.
I will check back for post here if I dont get any notifications after my 5th backup and it converts my backups to a full backup to let you all know how that worked.

I will def read those links but can you tell me right off if my making a full backup and then switching to the 5 incremental backups and then consolidate scheme should be a problem?
I am thinking I wont as the second backup I made appears to be made right with it leaving my full backup and just making what was added the since full backup.

I avoid any consolidaton which involves the merging of data from many files into one file.
The links will help you to understand. There is a learning curve which cannot be avoided for things to work correctly.

Techman,
I agree with Grover...
Just a FYI from my experience.... Keep it simple and it really does work.
I DO NOT use any automated backup schemes.
I DO NOT use any consolidation/cleanup schemes.
I have my backup schemes set for manual operation only.
When one backup routine gets a bit large, I use TIH2014 to delete the entire backup set and create a new one.
I never manually delete a backup set. I never move backup images around.
and most important... I visit this forum often and listen to the pros here...
They are quite a dedicated bunch and super helpful !
I used an image yesterday to restore the OS partition on a machine that experienced a hard drive failure.
It took about 20 minutes and I was up and running. This is not the first time that TIH2014 has saved my rear.

Perdido Beach wrote:Hello,
I am sure the real pros will chime in to give you a better answer but here is what I do.
I also use TIH2014.I make a Partition backup of my "C" drive using an Incremental scheme with ONE full and 5 Incremental's before it starts over with another full and 5 more incremental's. I execute the saved backup scheme manually, not auto scheduled. I do not use the "Clone" option.
My backups are stored on a dedicated internal drive. Dedicated solely for backup storage.I also have an "alternate" scheme that does EXACTLY the same thing, just named differently. Also executed manually.
So, I have 2 backup schemes that I alternate running. This makes sure I have a valid recovery base...
And the most important... I have TESTED a total failure and recovery, by removing the drive and sliding in a test drive and booting with the recovery media. It has saved my rear quite a few times...
Hope this helps !
Have a great day,
Steve
