using the bootable rescue media on a UEFI bios system

Thread needs solution

In the past if I needed to restore a backup that I had made (older versions of True Image and one machine was a vista and the other an XP) all I would do was to put the recovery disc into the drive and start the pc. The bootable recovery media would start and then I would just recover to one of my backups or if it was a new hard drive follow the steps to install the backup onto that new hard drive and I was back up and going in no time flat.

However, with the Dell XPS 8700 running Windows 8.1 (64 bit) I tried using the bootable rescue media disc I made and starting the computer but it just started up normally so I tried making the bootable rescue media on a flash drive and booting up but again it started up normally.

So I finally figured out how to access the bios and the bios is completely different now and it says something about UEFI and everything looks completely different there. I did try moving the usb storage up from the 2nd option to the first but that did not work and I also tried moving the Internal ODD Device from the 3rd option to the first with no luck either.

How am I supposed to get the Bootable Rescue Media to work with this UEFI bios?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks So Very Much

I had the same problem with a new Dell laptop.
I had to disable secure boot in the bios, enable legacy usb support and then make the DVD drive the first in the boot order.
You can find this stuff in the bios, just be careful what you change and remember it so you can change it back.
Here's some info:

If the computer boots, put the recovery medium in the computer, and start Windows. You will then choose, change settings charms > PC settings > Update and recovery > Recovery > Advanced startup options to boot into the recovery CD.

Verify that the UEFI boot settings allow for booting from USB at a higher priority than booting for Windows. On some computer, it is possible to access the boot options before Windows kicks in.

I did finally find out how to do this and for my computer with the rescue media on a flash drive. Booting from that once I figure out how was easy. Will try it with the cd as well and if not I would need to permanently change the boot sequence (as you stated - disabling the secure boot first).

But by just putting the flash drive that I made with the rescue media into the usb port and starting or restarting the pc and immediately tapping F12 I got the boot options and I just selected the flash drive, hit enter and the pc started with 3 options. I simply selected Acronis 2015 and it booted to the recovery media.

Thanks!
