I am sure you are aware of the time (days) it takes to restore a drive from the ground up. I'm just finishing the job after a horrible crash. I have a new computer ready to order, but will always keep a spare. There are over a hundred apps and an equal number of web shortcuts involved.

What I am wondering is this: My new computer will have Windows XP--the same as the present one, and will have the OS installed. I will purchase the OS with a new disk and authorization code. Can I use an Acronis clone of my existing system to transfer everything to the new computer, or will I have to start over? Somehow I feel that the old authorization code resides in the old computer somewhere and would keep the transfer from taking place, but am not sure.

You could probably use UR to restore the old image to the new computer. I assume you are aware of any licensing issues that might be involved for the software you have installed. Also note that you can't mix Windows activation keys. If both of the computers have the same Windows version (Home, Pro, etc.) and type (OEM or Retail), then you should be able to use the new key for activation. OEM licenses are not designed to be moved from the original computer and you can't activate an OEM version with a Retail key.
