Using True Image to upgrade to Windows 7

Thread needs solution

I want to upgrade my OS from Windows XP to Windows 7, using True Image 10 if possible. If I back up everything on the hard drive other than the Windows folder, install Windows 7 then restore the backup file will this work? Or can anyone suggest another method?

Can you be more specific on what you mean by backing up other than the Windows folder?

If these are programs, then you will need to install these again. If just data files then no problem.

Hello,

Colin, thanks for the assistance.

Roger, let me shed some more light on your concern.

First of all, please be aware that Acronis True Image 10 Home is not compatible with Windows 7. You can try Acronis True image Home 2010, that is designed for Windows 7. The trial version is fully functional within Windows for 30 days.

Also as Colin mentioned, you can't back up your applications or settings from your current OS and then restore them to a new Windows installation. You can do it only with data files, such as documents, music, video, etc.

I may also suggest you to have a look at these tips, they're very useful.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.
