Validation notice below My Partitions not appearing

Thread needs solution

Using an external HD, and after reformatting that and deleting the existing My Partitions, I redo a full system backup about every 3 or 4 weeks, scheduled for daily incremental backups, then validate. The green bar advising that the backup is valid tends to disappear after what seems like a random number of days of incremental backups. Should I be doing a validation after each incremental backup, or is there a solution to keeping the validation notice visible below the My Partitions? Please help me on this. Thank you.

There might be an expiration date for the green banners... But there is no way to customize how long they are displayed.
Doing validation is not strictly necessary after each backup. A validation just verifies that the integrity of the archive files has been preserved since they were created, it *does not* verify the fidelity of the backup data against the original data.
Therefore validating your backups increases your level of confidence that the backup files are not corrupted.
The next best test, instead of validating, is to boot on the recovery CD and recovery a couple of file from your last incremental.
The best test, obviously, is to do a full restore.

My rule of thumb is to make sure that each chain of backup is validated at least once, and to always have at least one backup chain validated. I am even OK if the validation happens in the middle of the chain. The reason why I can afford this protocol is that I use ATI only to backup my SSD where my apps and system are. I use sync software to backup my content, with online backup for irreplaceable content. Therefore, I am OK if the last incremental backup is not usable: worst case I go back to the last validated incremental, if that fails, I try the last full I have, or simply go back further in time.

Thanks for the feedback Pat. Sounds like I could eliminate my concern by just validating daily, even if that's not really necessary. I think I'll just schedule validation daily, along with the incremental daily. I can't really do online backup since I have so much more to backup than just apps and system. Yeah, I keep way too much on my main HD, like music and pictures. Yes, I have all that on CDs, but I like to keep them handy for periodic use. At age 75, I'm not likely to change that habit. Thanks again.

Robert,

Just a note. As you schedule your validations daily, unfold the advanced settings in the validation scheduler window, and uncheck all the options there. Leaving some of these options can result in delayed computer shutdown (the infamous " operations are in progress" screen).

Having solved getting the green bar "The backup is valid" to show up by scheduling a validation after each daily backup, I now have a new problem. Two things took place in the past few days: (1), I did an update of ATIH 2012 to Update 2 (build 7119), but (2), also cleared all the log entries I had going back into last year, using the"delete all" option on the "view log" using the single gear icon next to the "?" button at the upper right of ATIH.
I can't remember which I did first, but I think it was to delete all the log entries first. That cleared them all out of that log, but also those showing for the log since my last recreation of a new backup, using the "View Log" link on the right of the green bar. What I see is a round Green icon with white checkmark denoting a success for the most recent backup on the calendar, but NO entries to the right of the calendar. Basically, no entries on the log itself. I have the log set to "all" for the time period, with event source set to "My Partitions".

Any ideas on how to solve that prolem ?

One more mminor item: I am not getting notice of any repies in this forum, even thought I have selected getting such a notice.
