Thread needs solution

allthough I set a limit of 4 full chains the drive is runnung over with dozens of chains. I had to manually delete older backups to free space. what did I wrong? Or is the limitation function in TI 2016 not working any more?

Werner,

Typical causes of what is happening in your example is that

1. Task was edited and changes made to the original task after some backups had been created. (Editing an existing task is not recommended. Rarely does an edited task perform to user expectations. It is usually better to start with a new task using a new non-identical task name and point to a new storage sub-folder so each task has it own storage folder/sub-folder. Old task can be stopped or deleted from the task listings.)

or 2. TI was updated to a new build or newer verson whille attempting to use a backup task from a prior verson.

Regardless of the cause, the only real solution is to start over with a new task. Use a different task name so the task name has never been used before; also use a new or different folder for storage so your old backups are not mixed with new. I use a different sub-folder for each task storage. These practices will help you keep your task working correctly with automatic cleanup. As my GH11 examples show, the backup scheme must read "custom" as illustrated in the example.

GH11. Create Custom Full Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup.
...Store/Keep 4 versions (chains). Use whatever number best fits the individual needs..
Or, if you refer to my prior post above (gh12-gh13) if you want examplles of incremental or differential type backups.

Manual delete backup files in 2015-2016 inside active tasks will cause the task to either quit or mess up.

Best to create a new task and then leave it along without future edits.

GH, many thanks for clear and detailed instruction. I followed your schemes and are now waiting for the results in a few weeks time, when my backup drive will never run out of space :-)
