Version Compatibility - Also with Plus Pack

Thread needs solution

Can I restore an image created with the latest build using an earlier build? What about the Plus Pack? If I create am image backup using the Plus Pack, do I need the Plus Pack rescue disk to restore (assuming I'm recovering to the same hardware)?

Thanks!

It is highly recommended to create new rescue media and always use that. An earlier build may read the new backups but the restored data integrity can't be guaranteed.

You WILL need the plus pack rescue disk to restore to the same hardware if you are restoring using the image you made from an old configuration.

Hello,

First of all I'd like to thank bin for his valuable help.

Gary, let me add a few words to bin's explanations.

It is not recommended to restore backups created via the latest build of the software with the old ones. We can't guarantee an error-free restoration in such cases. For example, your image may be reported as it is corrupted although it's not.

You don't need Acronis Plus Pack if you're going to restore the image to exactly the same hardware (same machine). However, if you want to restore the image from the old machine to a new one, you do need a bootable media with Plus Pack.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

The rule of thumb is you can go forward but not back. That is to say, a newer version will handle files from one (usually two) versions back. But the older versions of the prog won't reliably (if at all) handle newer files.
