Very Disappointed with Acronis upgrade experience - Too many activations, sd card issue, and viruses, oh my!

Thread needs solution

I'm having a heck of a time with the Acronis upgrade. I paid $36 to upgrade Acronis and got the "Plus Pack" for free (don't really know what that is). I didn't get to using it for a couple weeks, but before I tried I realized my sd card reader wasn't working and I began having malware/virus issues. I really didn't associate these issues with Acronis, but thanks to this forum I know the sd card reader issue is related to this software. Who knows about the virus/malware thing. All I know is I can't do google searches right now and I could before.

And then when I finally tried to use it, Acronis gave the message that I had too many activations. So I tried to take advantage of the free support via the chat window didn't work. I messed around a bit more and the activation problem appeared to go away so I thought I was good. But the problem came back and my free support has expired. Acronis thinks my hardware ID has changed.

Can anyone out there relate to this experience?? Any help out there for a sorry soul who's just trying to backup his computer? I'm really feeling that I got taken here.

I'm hoping to avoid shelling out more money just to talk to customer support like I tried to do earlier!

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer here.

Vince

Hi Vince,
There are some known issues with upgrades and activation currently. I would suggest you try the following:

Log into your account and download the latest build of 2012 and the plus pack (currently build #6154) https://www.acronis.com/my/index.html

Grab a copy of the Acronis Clean Tool. http://kb.acronis.com/content/24545

Uninstall the current version. Then run the clean tool. Now reboot and install the latest build you downloaded previously.

Post back with your results.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for posting and thank you for your help shadowsports.

Vincent, I am very sorry to read about the issues that you experienced with our product.

The problem with the card reader can be resolved by using the solution from this Knowledge Base article, you will need to reboot the machine with the memory card in the card reader. This issue has been fixed and it will be available in the next update of our software.

For the activation issue please check the instructions from this article, it has a detailed step-by-step guide.

The Plus Pack will allow you to restore a backup to dissimilar hardware, which otherwise would be impossible without it, we have more information here.

In addition to paid support we offer free support for recovery issues and we refund the paid support incident if the problem turns out to be a known issue.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Anton and shadowsports - thanks so much for chiming in here. I feel much better to have the issues acknowledged by someone at Acronis. Hopefully they will be properly resolved soon.

Following the link in your post, last night I did the "activate" within Acronis and it appeared to work (like it did earlier when I tried to contact customer support). And as before, today I logged in and am getting the "Too many activations" error. When I try to "resolve," it says I'm trying to activate on a 2nd computer. It is also saying that the registration server is unavailable.

So at this point I should probably follow shadowsports advice and do the redownload/uninstall/Acronis Clean tool/reinstall procedure.

By the way, does Acronis function properly during this activation problem? Last night I also created a "Nonstop Backup." Do I have to worry about this functionality not working properly because Acronis thinks it's not activated?
