Very slow to delete backup

Thread needs solution

Yesterday I decided to do some housekeeping and to delete an old backup that I somehow seem to have duplicated.

I told Acronis to delete the backup, the settings and the files. The files are on a networked box.

Acronis chuntered on for most of the day but does not seem to have done anything. All of the old files are still there. So what was Acronis doing during all those hours?

I have just started again and it seems to have embarked on the same futile behaviour.

I see that this is yet another of those Acronis issues that has been around for years:

Deleting five part version taking over 8 hours with no way to cancel | Acronis Community

Is there any point in trying to get Acronis to delete redundant backups?

How long should I expect this task to take?

As that message from 2011 asks, why isn't there a Cancel button so that I can tell it to give up when I want to shut down?

It appears that you are using the 2015 product here? Have you attempted to shutdown the machine? With 2015 when the user elects shutdown the machine all processes are cancelled, see post #4 in this thread: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/81152.

It sounds to me like you have a connection problem with your network and the product. Have you tested the connection using the product? If the backup is very large in size it will take some time to delete all the data but it does seem excessive as you describe it.

I have indeed shut down the machine while this process is happening. It is the only way to get the thing to go away. I had to shut down that way because, as I said, this process has no cancel button. (That is one dumb piece of interface design.)

That was after a day when ATI said it was trying to do something, but nothing was happening. Not one of the old backups had been deleted.

The network connection works just fine. Acronis has no problem writing files to these network locations and it does so quickly and efficiently. That is how the backups ended up where they are.

I have also restored from these network locations. Once again, quickly and efficiently.

What else can I test?

I am having the same exact problem, and I am going back to 2014 due to all the bugs with 2015.

When I delete any backup job, of any size, even after I just rebooted, the delete process hangs the 2015 client, and the circle just keeps spinning. It has done this since I installed the product, and I usually just kill the process from task manager.

It has nothing to do with whether I try to shut down or not, I can just have the PC sitting there at the desktop, doing nothing, launch 2015 and try to delete any job, of any size, it hangs.

Please fix 2015 if you want people to use it, I think Acronis suffers from the "odd version curse", because 2013 had many issues coming from 2012.

I have over 30 Acronis products registered in my name, so I go back to 2008 products.
