VERY VERY SLOW

Thread needs solution

I have true image home 2011 latest build, trying to do 2 restores on 2 different machines which are running very very slow, both backups have been restarted at least 3 times and have been running for two days non stop I have the following setup.

Both are running from USB 2 boot dongle.

Machine 1

Dell 1521 laptop

SSD Drive with confirmed correct sector alignment

USB 2.0 interface

2GB RAM

Machine 2

ACER laptop

USB 2.0 IDE hard drive

4GB RAM

I have had a lot of experience with the 2010 product and never had an issue with slowdown, does the 2011 product require special drivers or something to operate correctly?

Troubleshooting done so far

Both laptops are powered up.

Confirmed both backup drives are larger than the source.

Ran CHKDSK /R

Confirmed SSD drive has correct alignment.

Successfully transfered 10GB manually to and from each backup hard drive, with good timings.

Anyone any idea whats going on? I am afraid to restart the backup with the 2010 product in case I have the same issue and have to wait again, It looks like its going to take at least 2 more days.

Try to change the policy of your USB disk in the device manager > properties of that disk. Choose "optimize for quick removal".

It would be interesting to compare if you were to connect the storage disk direct to the computer without the use of a dongle.

Does your post #2 imply that your backups are being performed from the TI Rescue CD or a TI Rescue FlashDrive?

TI Rescue Flashdrive but performance is the same using optical disc.

I have started to run restore from Windows itself and it seems to be working a lot faster - ETA 7 hours for 100GB restore. The Second machine also backs up ok from Windows.

So its not working from the Live CD or Live USB? Any ideas why?

The Rescue environment, either flashdrive or CD, is Linux not Windows and it seems the drivers that handle your hardware aren't there in the current version. Acronis says they only add to drivers in the rescue package but there have been other posts suggesting that some may have been removed.

That sounds about right. It would be a good idea to add maybe a PE environment as another option for the build as I bet a lot of people are having the same issues.

Barry,

This forum is frequented by users like you and me, rarely by Acronis Employees, never by Acronis developers.

You can create a BartPE-based recovery medium if you have the Windows XP installation files. You can also create a WinPE-based recovery medium, if you purchase the ATI Plus Pack.

I also wish there was a WinPE by default, although it can be slower than the Linux to boot.

That worked a Charm Excellent thanks Pat

I didn't even realise there was a plus pack, the product doesn't work without it lol

Unless things have changed, the Linux system is loaded entirely into RAM which means the CD drive can be used to read/write archives. I think WinPE requires its CD to be present all the time.
