Warning 0x00040011 "Failed to back up file or folder" for subfolder/files NOT selected as backup source
Problem description:
Warning 0x00040011 appears for files and sub-folders NOT included as a backup source and interrupts the backup process. Backup continues when user clicks on "ignore" and is canceled if user does not respond within 10 minutes. The interruption is unexpected and undesired.
The warning does NOT appear for files/supfolders declared as backup sources which have been deleted!
Attachment Description:
The subfolder "Edge Slides" is not selected as a backup source (left). After it is deleted (right) and a the backup is started, the error message appears (below).
A similar test was run for a folder and file selected as a backup source and then deleted. The warning message did not appear in this case.
Desired corrective action:
The appearance of this warning is exactly contrary to what would be expected, but in my opinion should not appear nor interrupt the backup process in either case!

Apparently Acronis never fixed this problem. I just purchased two Home 2011 and I can't backup my computer without this error coming up. It stops the process until I click "ignore" If this can't be fixed I want my money back, and will return to Dantz "Retrospect" at least that program does unattended backups.

William,
What OS and which build of 2011?
Are these files and folders part of a deep tree or contain long folder names?

This appears to be fixed in 2011 when running non-stop backup.

I have 2011 and it's not fixed, build 5519. I'm so frustrated with this, I want my money back and look for another software program that works.

"I just purchased two Home 2011 and I can't backup my computer without this error coming up."
William, it sounds from your original post and your continued problem with this Warning that we may not be referring to the same cause for this problem. The cause of the warning on my computer did not prevent me from performing successful partition backups, it just was irritating on some folder backups.
If you bought 2011 within the last 30 days, you can send a description of the problem to Acronis Support and it will at least be addressed if not resolved at no charge. If it is too late for that, post a detailed description of your specific problem here, include a screenshot or two, a small problem reproduction description and perhaps some of us on this forum can help you out. Acronis has been getting lots of email traffic (complaints?) since version 2011, so write to Acronis in any case letting them know how dissatisfied you are, but do be as factual and non-emotional as possible. Just bitching and whining like many people do doesn't generally lend itself to getting a response ... or one's money back.
