WD external drive disconnects while validating backup.

Thread needs solution

Hi All,

Using True Image Home 2013, Build 6514.

Running Win 7, 64bit.

Running a USB3 external WD My Book 3TB.

Every time i create a single scheme backup, i can create the backup with no issues.

BUT

when validating that backup (either by choosing validation manually, or setting it within options), the external drive hangs halfway through validation and then disconnects and disappears from explorer.

Only for me to reboot PC, turn on WD drive and have it perform like nothing happened.

When i try to validate the image i created previously it hangs again and the drive does same thing!!

help anyone? i am out of ideas.

Sounds like it could be a USB connection issue. ATI requires a solid, consistent connection during such functions as backup, restore and validation. Any interruption can cause failure.

Don't connect via a hub, a port in a monitor, a USB extension cord, etc. Connect the external drive directly to a USB port on the rear of the computer case. See if that works better. If you're already doing that, try a different rear port and/or different cable.

This also might be a possiblity. Do these edits on your Windows Device Manager

These could also apply.

Thanks everyone for the responses.

Ive tried all your options above but nothing works.

I run a GA-Z77X-UD7 motherboard, it only has USB3 plugs.

I was using a USB3 hub to connect the external drives to, but decided to try the USB2 case plugs with the external drives, and all of a sudden the drive doesnt disconnect and i can validate the backup............????

sounds like the USB3 controller, so i will play with that, obviously with it working its not an acronis issue....

thanks for all your help.

Stop using the hub. Connect directly to a USB 3.0 port, or a USB 2.0 port.
