Western Digital Edition for Mac - Help

Thread needs solution

I'm a very non-technical Mac user. I have two WD MyBook external 4 T drives, one for storing all video and photos, and one for backing up the Mac and the external HD (storing the video and photos). I was unable to use TimeMachine so I opted to try Acronis WD Edition.

Is there a user guide? I really don't know what I'm doing. I think I successfully made the backups but I don't know if I should do a Clone or even what that means. Is that what I would do if I buy a new Mac and want to transfer everything?

I don't really have a specific question, I just want to make sure I did it right and I'm protected in case of a failure/crash.

Amy, welcome to these public User Forums.

See KB 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products which applies to all OEM versions of ATI supplied with hardware purchases.

Caveat: I am a Windows user with no direct experience of using ATI on any Mac.

Normally, you should be able to find the user guide for Acronis True Image within the Help section of the installed application - I would hope that this would apply to OEM editions of ATI too!  Look in the application menu options.

Otherwise, you may need to contact WD for help with obtaining a copy of the user guide.

You can look at a copy of the full ATI 2021 for Mac user manual online which should give you a good overview of how it can be used etc.  There will be differences as I don't know which actual version the WD edition is based on, and all OEM editions of ATI have limitations that are used to allow them to only work with the specific make of disk drive, i.e. WD drives.

See my signature which has a document that describes the differences between Backup and Clone operations but be aware that using Cloning will overwrite the whole target disk drive which can cause data loss if used on a drive storing data you want to keep!
