What is it with this software? Why doesn't it work?
All I want to do is to back up my 1 disk system to another disk with plenty of room on it. I like the concept of incremental backups. I want simple, reliable software. This is definitely not it.
I have 20+ years of IT experience so I think I know what I'm doing. If I ever released software like this,
I'd be fired. Honestly.
Anyway, I need to back up my system and I searched around and this one seemed like it would do what I needed.
I didn't realize that it wouldn't work.
I bought it, installed it and set up my simple incremental backups and all went well for 2-3 days. Then I get an error
about a matching script is missing or something. Mind you, I did nothing, except check the logs every day. So now it
doesn't back up anymore. I contacted Acronis and they told me to delete my tasks and re-create them. Do I have to
do this every few days? Why???
Whatever. So I did that and it started running again.
Over a period of a few weeks, it sometimes ran, sometimes didn't. I did nothing. Once I did run out of disk space,
but the Status tab indicated "SUCCESS" that day, but no backup was made. I freed up space, it generated a backup
the next day, but that day was RED - indicating failure.
Now I look and I see that it hasn't run in over a week. And best of all - I have no more tasks out there! Who
deleted them? No tasks, no backups.
On their Website, I see that a "hot topic" is scheduled tasks not running. That's really encouraging, isn't it?.
So I do as the page says - download a file and run it. I do it and at the end it goes:
service
install
Ok
service
start
Ok
Then:
[ESC] Start service: Open Service FAILED 1060: The specified service does not exist as an installed service.
Acronis Scheduler 2 has been successfully updated.
So, we get an OK that the service started, then a message that, no - wait a minute, the service does
not exist after all, then a message that Acronis has been successful.
Incredible. Truly incredible.
This software is so unreliable. It shouldn't be this hard to backup a system. Does anyone have any recommendations for backup sofware that works? I don't need anything too exotic. Simple, reliable incremental backups.
What a total waste of money this stuff is.
I totally have no faith that in the event of a disaster, that this software would be of the slightest use in recovering my system. Don't buy it.
