What is needed?

Thread needs solution

I am currently using the trial version of the true image software. I have 2 computers running Win-7 (one 32 bit one 64 bit). My question is what software do I need to only do full backups and possible restores to the same computer or maybe a different hard drive if my main C: drive crashes? Do I only need TI2013 or do I also need Plus utilities just in case the hard disk changes for the restore?

Second I have noticed that for some reason the NON-Stop feature is running. This I do not want however when I try to set Full backup it is not being saved and is always defaulting to incremental. Is this a bug?

I see that when burning a DVD for a recovery disk it only places a startup version of TI2013 on the DVD. Is this enough to totally restore my C: drive if it crashes? Do I need a Win-7 bootable DVD also?

I apologize for what may seem to be and probably is newbie questions. I just wanted to be sure before spending my money.

Thanks for your reply

For such a setup, you should not need the Plus Pack.

You will also need the the ATI 2013 bootable Rescue Media, which you can create to CD-R/DVD-R or USB flash drive.

You would usually be able to do a full restore with only the ATI bootable Rescue Media. However, it is a good idea to have a Win7 disk in case you ever need to do such things as repairing the MBR.

You should boot from the ATI 2013 bootable Rescue Media now, to ensure that it recognizes your hardware and your backup drive. After creating a backup, use the ATI 2013 bootable Rescue Media to restore a couple of files, which will give you good confidence that you could restore the drive in an emergency.

Thank you for your quick response. The only remaining issue is the Bug about TI2013 not saving my settings for full backup and always switching the default to incremental.

I have booted from the DVD and it sees my hardware just fine. This is my newer PC (64 bit). not sure yet about the old dog ( HTPC) that is starting to complain.

I am doing full backups of my 64 bit system that has 3 hard drives in it to a WD 1TB usb drive. I would like to now go to my old dog ( HTPC) and backup the C: drive onto the same WD passport drive. Will I run into a problem if 2 separate PC system backups reside on the same USB drive?

Update: This post is from my HTPC (old dog) . It sees the WD passport just fine. I am thinking that ordering the family pack is the way to go for TI2013. My wife has a computer also which is new and even if I don't intend to backup anything from it I thought I would still load it.

Thanks again,

It's a known issue that we hope will be fixed in the next build.

Nope, perfectly fine, provided that you backup to separate folders. You can make multiple backups to a single HD, which is one of the reasons why backup is so much better than clone.

Hey Tuttle,

By separate folders do you mean creating a "mybackup2" folder or just make sure the drive name is different?

I understand Acronis is a small company. I ran my small computer company for 22 years. If they are not paying you, they should at least find another way to compensate you.

Regards and thanks for the info.

BTW - I just tried to restore a picture file (jpeg) from my WD passport C: drive backup to my desktop and it performed as I would have expected. So far so good.

Separate folders on the external drive. Those folders can be named whatever you want, just don't mix backups from two PCs into one backup folder. In fact, don't mix backups from two backup Tasks into one backup folder: each backup Task should backup to a separate backup folder.

Was that restore performed the ATI bootable Rescue Media? If so, you should be well set if you ever need to perform a disk/partition restore.

I like food, wine and cash! :)

No! not performed from ATI bootable but I went back to boot the ATI and did restore from ATI bootable. An observation! It was not obvious as to how to restore just one file. I poked around and finally tried a search for the file. After it was found I restored it.

FYI- the only thing I would add to your list is women! (assuming that you are not one (or are)).

TY

Sure, but we were speaking of items with which Acronis could compensate me. I don't want them buying women for me.

LOL,

point taken...

Anyway, I think I will just buy the family 3 pack version and hope the bug fixes are soon on the way.

Your help has been appreciated!

Unknown. It's possible that there might be no further builds of ATI 2013, since they will be releasing ATI 2014 relatively soon (beta testing now).
