What would be the best "backup type" for me

Thread needs solution

Hello guys..

I am just reviewing the way i backup my files/folders

I do not generate alot of files over the week/month, so i did think a differential was the best option for me.
(ie. The first full backup on the windows 7 computer was about 3/4 weeks ago , and i have only just created a my first differential backup, which probably only 15/20 files have been added since.

Its basically the same on the vista computer, but sometimes when i am studying a topic or subject i could generate quite a few files over a couple of days, and on another particular day i could put up to 70/100 picture files and some video files, then go for days without putting anything on the computer.

So there is no point in me doing incremetal backups every day if nothing has changed in the last couple days

So in my situation, what would be the best "backup type" to use, would a mixture of incremetal and differential backups be better, if i am just ramdomly creating files on any particular day/week.

Your question is probably better for the True Image forum (this forum is for Disk Director).

Either type of backup will accomplish your goal so the choice is yours. If you have the room, differential backups are more robust since they only require the original full backup and any one of the differential backups to recover your data. You can lose one or more of the differential backups and still recover data from the latest backup. But they take up more room on your storage device.

Incremental backups take up less room since they only include files that were changed since the last incremental backup. However, to restore a file from a recent incremental backup requires that you have the original full backup plus each and every incremental backup right up to the present date. If any one of the incremental backups is corrupted or lost then you will be unable to recover any files from that date forward.

So sorry mark, the forums must have been right next to each other and i have obviously clicked on the wrong one..
But thanks anyway i guessed as much..

So is it best just keeping the original full backup, and just deleting any old differential backups if they are beginning to take up to much space.

At what point should you create another full backup if you are just doing differentials. ?

I have put the question on the correct forum anyway mark..
