Where to install True Image with Vista XP dual boot

Thread needs solution

I did a search didn't find anything relevant.

I installed XP then Vista. Now want to make backups of both drives. Because of Vista's bootloader would it be correct to install TI on the Vista side and create the backups there. If installed on the XP side TI seems to "miss" Vistas bootloader.

Thanks,

Matt

What version of TI are you using?

TI should backup the partitions regardless of which OS is booted. However, there can be problem depending on how Windows is installed, which partition is Active, which contains the boot manager (especially if you're using Microsoft's boot manager), etc.

In some cases, TI will actually do the restore correctly, but it doesn't update the BCD file for multiple operating systems. This usually results in only one (or some) of them booting and the other one(s) requiring a repair.

Hello Matthew Short and MudCrab,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Yes, you should be able to create a backup of two systems without any dependance on particular OS you installed the program on. Also, you will be able to include both systems to backup if you boot from Standalone Version of Acronis True Image.

Thank you.
