Whole Disk backup impossible when Linux partition present

Thread needs solution

Hello,

My SSD contains :
* 1 NTFS (Primary, Active) with Windows XP OS
* 1 NTFS (Extended) partition : containing 1 NTFS Logical (Data) + 1 Linux (SWAP)
* 1 EXT4 (Primary) Linux partition with Linux Mint Maya OS

Under Windows, I can't save my whole disk (Disk backup or Partitions Mode). The program crashes (under windows). I tried to save SWAP or Linux OS partitions separately with no success. Problem occurs when 1 or more Linux partitions are selected for the backup.
However, I can do it with the Rescue disk ! All the 4 partitions are present and accessible in the .tib file. If I initiate a Restore operation, I can browse through all directories and select individual Linux Files.

I contacted the support and I was replied that it is not possible to save OS Linux partitions (only data, if I understood well). Strange to me because I can't save SWAP partition either.

I read both english and french user's manual. Things are still not clear to me. Page 14, it is said that EXT4 is supported but nothing is said concerning Linux OS partitions (EXT4 in my case).

So, is it possible to save the whole disk or all the 4 partitions with ATI2013 ?
Why the rescue disk (apparently) succeeds in doing the backup and not the Windows program ? Is the Rescue disk backup wrong ?

It seems that the only solution is to install Linux onto a separate additional HDD.

Thanks for your answers

Or use the bootCD to make the hdisk backup. Ironically, the bootcd boots up a version of linux ;)

I too don't see how the limitations described in userguide imply that presence of OS may impact backup or restore capability. I'd recommend to collect crash dump and continue to work with support to get this resolved.

Yes, and if it were the case, that would imply that the Windows program is completely different from the one running under Linux (Rescue disk) !

Not really serious.

I'll go on with support to make it clear.

After investigation with technical department, the impossibility to backup under Windows disk containing Linux OS partition is confirmed !
The only solution is to start with the Rescue Disk.

Not satisfactory to me. I asked and obtained to be refunded.
