Why is Acronis Universal Restore required for same computer?
Windows XP Pro SP3
Acronis True Image Home 2011 Plus Pack Build, Update 1 (Build 6597)
Why is Acronis Universal Restore required for same computer?
I made a C drive full backup of my IDE C drive.
I replaced the IDE C drive with a SATA drive on the same computer.
This was the only hardware change.
The recovery proceeded as follows:
In the recovery process, check the Disk check box so both the partition and MBR are selected.
It will automatically write the source disk signature on the target disk signature.
This is important since some software looks at the disk signature used during application installation.
You must check the Acronis Universal Restore. Otherwise, Windows brings up a Normal Start screen. Selecting Normal Start or Safe mode cause a brief booting sequence, but then throws you back to the Normal Start screen.
It is unclear why you must check the Acronis Universal Restore since I am restoring XP to the same identical computer?
Thanks in advance.

Was the SATA controller driver already installed? There can be problems on the same board when switching controllers or modes on a controller if the driver isn't installed (it's not limited to switching to a different physical computer).
Are you getting a BSOD that's flashing by so fast on the auto-reboot that it just looks like it's returning to the Normal Start screen? This is the default on XP.

The IDE C drive has the SATA controller drivers installed according to Windows Device Manager.
The only hardware change was removing the IDE C drive and replacing it with the SATA drive.
The backup file was on the D drive which is a separate physical disk.
