Why doesn't Acronis follow its backup naming convention?

Thread needs solution

From what I understand from the Acronis Help file and elsewhere, a partition backup task named "C-Image" should create a file named C-Image_full_b1_s1.tib. However when I ran the backup, Acronis instead named the file Boot-150_(C)_full_b1_s1_v1.tib. (Boot-150 is the name I gave to the partition I'm backing up, which Windows deems to be the C: drive.) Can anyone explain why it did this? Thanks.

Coffent,

You seem to have answered your own question in what you have written. What exactly are you querying about the actual file name? If it is the v1 part, that is the volume index and unless you use split images over CDs or DVDs, it will always remain as v1.

Ah, the user guide has changed, I see what you are getting at, I will check with Acronis, but I think an error has crept into the user guide. The original user guide stated what I have written above, and 2013 still seems to adhere to the original scheme not one the in th eupdated user guide.

The backup task has a name, and the file that it creates has a name. They can be different from each other. When doing a partition backup, Acronis will use the partition name as the backup file name by default.

While creating a new task, when you select the backup location, you should use browse to point to the backup destination folder. While doing this, you can specify the file name you wish to use. Once the destination selection (and file name) is selected, you can then name the backup task either to match the file name or have a completely different name for your task.

Editing the task name does not change the destination file name.

http://forum.acronis.com/forum/28705 figures 6, 7, 8, and 9 show how to create a backup with a custom destination file name.

Thanks, Colin & James. I followed James' instructions successfully. Colin, I agree the user guide needs to be corrected/clarified.
