Why full backup every 5 days?

Thread needs solution

Hi,

The default setting for True Image is to do a full backup every 5 days in between incremental backups. Could someone explain the advantage of this to me? It seems like extra wear and tear on your SSD drive. Thanks.

Five seems a pretty safe number given that corruption or accidental deletion of one file in the chain renders both it and those following useless. I always run incrementals, but manually, not on a schedule, and tend to do weekly cycles, so full + six incrementals.

As to the SSD aspect... are you saying that the SSD is known to be, and is going to be less reliable than a conventional HDD ? It may well be... I don't know... but that is not Acronis at fault. Its up to you to decide if the risk of having more incrementals in the chain is worth the risk... or if the risk is unacceptable, then the question is whether SSD is the right choice for you. I always add to my incrementals with monthly full backups and store those separately on a separate drive.

I do a full backup every day or two. If your system or data change or are updated often, the more recent the backup the better.

Indeed... re-reading my post above and I can see its not clear. I meant to say weekly cycles as in a new incremental set started weekly with daily incrementals through the week.

Thanks for reply. I think I understand better about the risk of corruption or accidental deletion. I set my backup to a RAID0 regular hard drive. Thanks again.
