Will a 2010 boot disk restore a 2011 image?

Thread needs solution

Long story short: My PC is running 2010 home version, and I have a boot disk. Mom's PC is running 2011 and her PC had no cd burner. So I have no 2011 boot disk.

Made a backup of her drive to usb and now the boot drive has crashed.

I'm hoping I can use the 2010 boot disk to restore her image onto a new drive. Will this work, or do I need to make a 2011 boot disk?

Thanks

Hello Scott,

Welcome to our Forum, it's nice to have you with us! Thank you for your question, I will be glad to address it.

Unfortunately Acronis True Image Home 2010 might not recover properly the image, created with 2011 version. So you're correct, the best solution will be to register the product, download the updated bootable media in ISO format and burn it onto the CD. You can find the backup compatibility table in this KB article.

Scott,
Another option would be to on the 2011 machine to insert a blank usb flash drive use the "Create bootable mediia" option and have the 2011 machine burn a bootable USB Flash Drive.

Afterwards, you could use the Flashdrive on the 2011 machine and restore the 2011 backup onto the 2011 machine. A 2 gig size flash drive will work but a 4G size is about $12.
