What do you mean by " get all the back up to a new Win8 machine"?
Do you mean restore or copy just the user data files (e.g. Word docs, music, etc.), or the whole system? You can do the former, not the latter.

Cant seem to work out how to just include my documents and software specific programs. Will I have to reload all my existing programs one at a time or can AT2015 do this for me. Like uploading all the c:/programs etc

Data can be copied over, programs if they rely on registry entries will need to be reinstalled.

There is another non Acronis program that purports to be able to migrate programs but this has to be done at the same time as installing W8. Check out Laplink.
