Win 8 64 GPT UEFI full disk restore unable to boot after
So, before i send this to acronis I wanted to perform a couple more restores from before xmas to make sure it wasnt a corrupted incremental doing me wrong. Long story short, I upset my SSD cache and need to restore the disk. However after a restore I get the cheery light blue screen of death informing me that a critical device is missing. I hit F8 to get options and I am greeted with another delightful light blue screen of death that says it can not find file//windows/system32/winload.efi . I am guessing that it could be an issue with GPT but I am not certain.
So I figure if this new in progress restore fails I will see if i can access whats on the disk using the windows 8 shift-F10 console prompt from that install disk. It looks like there aren't to many win 8 requests on here so I may end up sending this to acronis.

That indicates that the disk is missing some key information probably located in one of the hidden partitions of your GPT disk.
Make sure you have included ALL partitions in the backup.
Try to restore one partition at a time, in the same order they were laid out. You can ascertain this by looking at Windows disk management (not Windows Explorer).

I should also note that I have to disable the raid array to get the machine to play nice while attempting recovery to the mechanical drive. So essentially I am in AHCI mode and the SSD cache just sits there idle till i get windows up and running again.
What do you mean by disable the raid array? If you do this and restore the image you will have a blue screen because you essentially change the configuration of the disk. Is your RAID hardware or software based? If it is software, you have a dynamic disk and you need the Plus Pack to support that.

the raid feature is part of the bios/UEFI . its a gigabyte z68-ud3-issd which is built specifically to utilize raid to establish its SSD as a cache to the mechanical drive.
I think my problem is deeper than acronis. I am attempting a fresh install and "Windows installation has failed"

I figured since i was back on the forums investigating a different issue, I would follow up with what happened for this one. My motherboard was failing due to a short from contacting the case. The case and motherboard were replaced and this issue was resolved.

Thank you for the update. Did you restore the image to the spinning drive and the caching mechanism worked out immediately?
