WIN 8.1 boot time ruined by True Image

Thread needs solution

I have a new Dell xps 8700 special edition which had boot time of ~30 seconds to desktop.

I installed TI 2014 trial edition and boot times are now about 1 minute 30 seconds. whats it doing that takes so long?

More importantly, how can I avoid the slow start-ups but still use True Image?

The app is probably searching or scanning disk(s). You can disable these functions from running on startup. That should restore your boot times

Bob is referring to Trueimage.

I went through MSCONFIG and see several programs running from Acronis. I tried disabling all I could find under "services" and "Start up". Did not find "True Image" itself.

This had no real effect on boot time, which still lagged. Uninstalling True Image restored quick boot time.

It must be installing something I can't find in MSCONFIG. Other suggestions?

Thanks,

I still think your issue is the scan feature that is on by default in 2014. Do not know what OS you are running but in Win 7 scan could be disabled by modifying the Registry Key.

I do not know for sure under Win 8.1 but for Win 7 the key is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Settings\ScanComputerAtStartup

A setting of 0 means the scan is disabled.
A setting of 1 means the scan will occur each program start.

The entries in the Registry may be somewhat different. You can search within the registry selecting Find and enter ScanComputerAtStartup, this should enable you to find the key.
