Win7 operation after cloning

Thread needs solution

I have cloned my HD on to a new HD, both are 1 TB Western Digital drives. After cloning and booting to the new HD, the Windows Update process does not work. I tried all of the Microsoft FixIt options, but the problem remains. Would doing a sector-by-sector image of the old drive and then a restore t the new drive be a better approach?

Can I keep both bootable drives on the system without conflict? I was thinking of maybe creating a dual boot system.

Hello Jim,

The cause of the problem is that Windows Update as well as some other applications, utilizes a shared database that is tied to a specific disk. When the disk changes as a result of system cloning, the references to the old disk in the database are no longer valid and errors can occur, like the one you describe. The solution is to rebuild the database in the following way:

1) Open "Control Panel - Uninstall a program" window and see if there is any
software with a name containing "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" or "Intel
Matrix Storage Manager".

2) If you find such a software, please uninstall it,
reboot the computer and then see if Windows Update works correctly.

3) If it doesn't help please download and install the latest version of Intel driver.

Please let me know if it helps.

Thank you.
