windows 10 bootmgr is missing
I am trying to upgrade a windows 10 pc from HD to SSD.
I have created a trueimage backup pf my HD. It has 3 partitions, 1. Windows 10, 2. MBR and track 0 and 3. RE
I followed the manual section 5.2.2 Migrating to SSD using the backup and recovery method. It says to unselect MBR and track 0, which I did. The recovery then proceeded and completed but now the pc no wont boot. It says 'bootmgr is missing'.
Looking around this forum this seems to be a common problem with this software. Is th eprocess in the manual correct? Why are so many having this issue?
I have tried to fix by booting from the windows 10 cd and running startup repair but that doesn't work.
What to do?

Sorry, yes there was also a hidden partition which I did include in the backup and restore.
The trueimage manual says to restore excluding MBR and track 0 from the restore. Perhaps this is wrong and the reason it doesn't boot?
I've done it again and restored all 4 partitions and I get 'an operating system wasn't found. try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system'.
I'll tell you what is bloody ridiculous with this software - you have to select restore partitions labelled as partition1-1, partition1-3 etc What are these? How am I supposed to realistically identify these and so know where to restore them to?

Bikeman, have you tried restoring the MBR / track 0 - I know that it may be advised to not restore these but I have always done so myself, and you can do this separately if needed.
I am assuming that this is a legacy BIOS / MBR system as you haven't mentioned seeing an EFI partition to suggest otherwise.
The other thought here is to check how BIOS shows what your boot device is? On some systems this has to be a specific disk drive but on others you need to select Windows Boot Manager as the default boot device.
One last point - when you change over from the HDD to the SSD - you are connecting the SSD exactly in place of the HDD I hope?

The issue seems to boil down to 1. not restoring the mbr and track 0 - as instructed not to by the trueimage manual! Then secondly having two RE partitions and only restoring one of them. So I've now got it working.
As a longtime trueimage 8, 9 and 10 user I think Acronis has lost its way with ver 2015. Restoration of a full disk was a 1 click afair, now you have to select individual partitions and know where to put each. And deal with an incorrect manual. I can image that when faced with an emergency trying to restore with TI2015 will just make things worse. Usability of this application is appalling, it is obvious that the developers are in charge at Acronis and the UX guys have been fired. I'll be looking for an alternative and don't plan to use Trueimage again. Very disappointed.
