if the new drive is Advanced Format (2Tb most likely is), and the old one was not, and windows updates stopped working too, then googling "advanced format windows updates site:acronis.com" gives a lot of to start with.

Aha -- indeed the Windows Update is also stopped as you suggested.
I have Windows 7 64bit.
The search for "advanced format windows updates site:acronis.com" gave suggestions related to the use of the Advanced format.
I checked and the C drive has 512 bytes/sector.
Some suggestions were to update the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers.
I downloaded the drivers but it seems these are for a RAID and I have removbed the RAID and replaced with a single drive.
Any other ideas on how to do the oindexing and Windows Update when usinf the Advanced format??

If your system did/does not have any previous Intel RST or Matrix Storage Technology software, and has other vendors chipset and controller software instead, you would need the appropriate updates from that vendor (AMD for example).
The Intel RST drivers also support RAID controllers in AHCI non-RAID mode. http://downloadmirror.intel.com/22194/eng/readme.txt and http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/sftwr-prod/imsm and http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&Dwnl… If you indeed already have an older version installed, then the new version should help with the AF drive(s) issues you are experiencing. In addition, there was a Windows Update for Windows 7 that should already have been applied, but you should check to see if it is installed. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982018
After installing the Intel RST (if applicable to your system), check to see if Windows updates resumes working correctly. Once this happens, you should rebuild the Windows Search index as well. (Indexing Options - Advanced - Delete and Rebuild Index)
If you have an older version of Intel' RST or Intel's Matrix Storage Technology driver installed, use add/remove programs to uninstall them, and check for any improvements (Windows Update working correctly) before installing any newer version. Removing the older version should not cause any issues with booting your system.
On a Vista system that I replaced a standard drive with an AF format drive, removing the older Matrix Storage driver and applying the 4KB AF Windows patches corrected the Windows Update issue right away, as the older driver was the problem as it did not support 4KB/512B (512e) AF drives.
I have had issues with moving to AF drives (Windows Vista and Windows 7) from standard 512B sector drives in the past. If the necessary drivers and Windows Updates and patches are in place BEFORE the backup and restore (or Clone), then the issues do not appear.
Windows 8 does not seem to exhibit this behavior.

my C drive was formerly set up with a RAID0 managed by the Intel Matrix Storage Manager.
I redid this drive onto a single 2TB drive using Aconis and all worked as expected -- with the exception that indexing and Windows Update will not work.
OS is Win7 64Bit ..
I have now removed the Matric Storage Tachnology application using Programs and Feature from the Control Panel.
Rebooted and still no indexing or Windows Update -- it says the Services wont start.
I have also downloaded the Intel Rapid Storage Driver -- which is the new version of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager.
However, I cant figure out what to do with this Driver -- there is seemingly no Hardware to Update.
Any thoughts as to how to install the Intel Rapid Storage Driver?
And is this what I should be doing to use the Advanced Format drives?
I have also seen mention of a UEFI Bios -- do I need to concern with that?

Finally fixed the problem!
Indeed installing the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) did the trick.
Now both Indexing and Windows Update is happy.
I downloaded the Rapid Storage Technology .exe from the Intel site -- not the set of drivers, but the .exe.
When I run the RST .exe -- it loads up the RST and upon reboot, the AF drives seems to work correctly.
Dont really understand what happened cause the RST seems to be related to a RAID setup and I have a single drive in AHCI.
However, it just works ...
I've had to go into the Control Panel -> Indexing -> advanced to redo the indexing ---
The Windows Update -- just worked without doing anything.
Thanks for all assistance!

Your welcome.
The Intel RST driver works with both RAID and AHCI non-RAID systems with supported chipsets.
http://downloadmirror.intel.com/22194/eng/readme.txt (from the first link I posted)
The zipped "driver only" files are for use when installing Windows and adding the Intel RST drivers during the install.
Sorry I didn't clarify that you should download .exe file. My mistake.
Glad to here everything is working well now.
