Windows 7 RTM - Acronis compatibility ETA?
Per Microsoft Windows 7 code is stable since the RTM - Release To Manufacturing - was announced last month. The Windows 7 RTM is available to Microsoft enterprise and Technet clients for testing, &etc. I am in this group testing Windows 7 RTM.
I installed True Image build #8353 (released last month) onto a Windows 7 RTM machine. After re-boot attempting to start True Image build #8353 returned a Windows 7 RTM message declaring the program incompatible in the Win 7 environment.
I've used Build #8353 from bootable rescue media to successfully back up and restore Windows 7 images. The primary question I think for those like me who are testing the final code of Windows 7 RTM is,
When will there be a True Image Echo Workstation compatible with Windows 7? Are we advised to migrate to Acronis® Backup & Recovery™ 10 products?
Thank you,
Harry Jacobson

Hello Harry,
You're correct, Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 products are compatible with Windows 7.
Please note that Windows 7 is not released yet and still in development stage, so it's not officially supported. We will update our products when Windows 7 is officially released.
You can check this [[http://kb.acronis.com/content/2870|KB article]] for additional details.

True Img 2009 build 9796 works without problems here on Win 7 build 7600 . But I do only manual backups and restores.

I just purchased ATI 2009 yesterday (09.16.09) because the trial had worked so well with my Windows 7 RC version, only to find that it does not work with my recently loaded RTM version of Windows 7. Once Windows 7 goes into full release, will there be an upgrade for ATI 9 for this Operating System?
My concern is that I just spent 50$ for ATI 2009 and will not be able to use it.

It would be very nice if there is a release build for ATI2009 that will make it W7 compatible.
But based on past history and the timing of Acronis releases, I suspect that we have had the last build release of ATI 2009 and will therefore need to buy ATI 2010 to get Windows 7 compatability.
Your $50 for ATI 2009 wont be wasted though, as you will just pay the upgrade price rather than the full price of ATI 2010.

Hello all,
Regarding the topic subject - I'm absolutely sure that new builds of Acronis True Image Home 2009 will be released. At this moment I've got no official information about official Windows 7 support in Acronis True Image Home 2009, but I would try to clarify it.

Hello Michael,
I do accept such a statement when it comes from a fan boy but as a Acronis Moderator you should know better, at least if you have any idea about the quality system of an ISO certified company.
If a product is released for Manufacturing it NOT in development anymore and it IS officially released because paying customers get it, that it is not yet on store shelves does not matter .
Why can you guys not simply say "I am sorry but we are not there yet".
Anyway, I hope it will come soon.

Will, make sure you have build 9796 of ATI 2009. What feature doesn't work with your RTM Win7?

Hi all,
I'm waiting for the mounting fix for win7 RTM 64-bit (I currently have ATI 2009 build9796 installed). I can access the files by double-clicking the image...but its SO very slow for large files. whereas mounting it was a breeze!
Michael, thanks for the PM's!

I downloaded the TI2010 "beta" off their website and it is working fine (backups) on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit RTM version. Haven't tried a RESTORE yet but will do so when I get my pair of SSD's to replace my hard-drives in a few days. Backups seem to work flawlessly but can't speak for a full image restore yet.
Edit: This new forum software is torturously s-l-o-w.

I upgraded to Acronis Backup Recovery Advanced 10.0.0.11105. It installs without problem on the Windows 7 RTM.

I have been using Windows 7, RC and now RTM build 7600. I have used TI 2009 Rescue Media for both with no problems. My use is to clone the drives. I find no compatibility problem when the bootable CD is used.
Some other software makers have found problems with the RTM version, because Microsoft made changes in the NTFS and did not notify them. Some have been patched, but a couple are still working on it. Here is a quote from one tech message I got:
"We did fast investigation into this issue. We found that Microsoft is blocking the driver for Active Protection in the W7 RTM version. There has been intense work behind the scenes to find out how and why and what can be done. As for the how and why, it appears that the AP driver was incorrectly added to the W7 block list for SPF v4.6. SPF v4.6 is not compatible with W7, and we agreed to block SPF v4.6 in W7. The AP driver was added to the block list as a result."
Just discovered this forum change this morning - nice! I don't mind starting over. :)

Where do I go to get ready for converting to Win 7. Will I be able to load my image backups directly to Win 7 if I do a clean install of Win 7? Will that load all of my applications? Do I need to add any partitions to thw new WIN 7 clean install?

1. I would suggest you first go to Microsoft and download/install their Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. It will go over your system in detail and advise you of anything you need to attend to first.
2. No. First of all, you can only do a program-to-program upgrade from Vista. XP requires a clean install. Any clean install will require you to reinstall your applications. Microsoft also has some advice on doing this.
3. No, applications must be registered after a clean install in most cases (Meaning, Registry entries must be made for the applications.)
4. Not unless you want them. Win 7 doesn't require it.
I first did a clean install of Win 7, and then it was about a weeks work to get all apps and customizations installed. So, I went back to Vista (I had a duplicate disk cloned by Acronis TI 2009) and did a full upgrade. That worked very well, and is what I am using today on my Win 7 system.

Date of this post is Oct 15, 2009.
Most of the posts in this thread are from August or earlier of this year. To someone who is trying to determine if True Image 10 does or does not work with Win 7 at this time, it is quite difficult.
The relase date is a week away. What is the status of True Image 10 and Windows 7. Does it work. Are there parts that work and parts that don't?

As an update - I can only comment on the cloning function of TI 2010's bootable rescue media. That works perfectly for me on Windows 7 Ultimate (Final version, RTM.) As for transferring images after a clean install, that will m ove the data but will not install, i.e., register the programs. That is why I changed from a clean install to a direct upgrade from Vista Ultimate. That worked beautifully. I cannot comment on backup and restore functions as I never use them. Strictly a cloner.

Since opening this thread in mid August I've installed Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Advanced Workstation (ABR10AW) in the Windows 7 RTM environment.
I can say all ABR10AW backup, validation, and recovery operations I've tried work for Windows 7. There appear to be minor problems - the validation function works when "Vault" and "Archive" are chosen targets. The validation function does not work when specifying individual backup (.tib) files. The validation process when applied to individual .tib files typically completes after three seconds.
I cannot say ABR10AW can manipulate Windows Dynamic Volumes. I see no way in ABR10AW to adjust partition size and position or to convert dynamic - basic partitions.

Any word on Acronis 10 being compatible with WIN 7 Pro 64bit? Will there be a software update for WIN 7 Pro 64bit?

And are the reported problems exclusive to 64bit or is 32bit Home Premium affected, too? Having been very pleased with older versions of Acronis on XP installations, I would like to upgrade to ATI 2010, but not if my money will be wasted.

All I can say is that as of today it's not compatible. I was able to install True Image Home 10, but I can't get it to run. I get the This Program is Blocked Due to Compatability Issues error message. Does anybody have a solution? Luckily I was able to use explorer to move the files from a complete backup of XP I did before getting my new desktop. Does Acronis plan on doing anything to fix these issues? I haven't been able to find anything in the forums or on line.

Hi Aaron,
I think I have a solution or at least a work around to the "This Program is Blocked Due to Compatability Issues" error message.

I have Echo Build 8206 installed and running without any issues on Win7 Pro RTM after renaming the executable to "TI.exe". Earlier problems I had with Echo generating corrupted images was traced to memory related problems on my machine and not the program.
I experienced nothing but problems with B&R10 and won't attempt to install it again as long as I can keep Echo going.

I purchased Acronis 2009 Home upgrade build 9796 and I am running Windows 7 Ultimate. Build 9796 will not run in Windows 7. I keep getting an error message. The bootable disk I made with it works fine. If there is a problem with the program and Windows 7, why don't they fix it? Are they trying to push people over to Paragon which is FREE?

I had ATI 2010 Home running just fine on my XP machine. Moved it to my new Dell Inspiron 580 with Win 7 x64 Home Prem and I get RPC Server is unavailable message Error 1722. Tried all the knowledge base suggestions. Tried adding a password to my account. Worked for hours with Acronis support via chat. The Scheduler process is missing from my machine and it won't install. Have sent AcronisInfo to support on 2/24 and cannot get status on the problem. I'm stuck with a nonworking product and no image of my new system. Does anyone know how I can either get the fix moving or request a substitute version that will work?

I have ATI 2010 Home working on win7-64 Home Premium. Only problem I have found is the Recovery disk boots but then locks up in the User interface where you have the choices of what you want to do. I posted to this forum re that issue, but have not received any replies.
Image backups work fine, are verified, and can be browsed. But I cannot recover, because the CD wont work properly.

My True Image Echo is still working without any issues. I am using it with Win7 Professional for partition and daily file backups. I will try it on a new build with 64bit.

Hello all,
Thank you very much for your feedback.
Let me address some queries here.
sol rosenberg, as far as I understand, you're experiencing the issue with CD version of the product - it simply hangs at the boot process.
I'd recommend you to download the version which is based on another loader (the version has some extended list of drivers and startup parameters). We have implemented the possibility to download the appropriate ISO file after logging into your account (the serial number should be registered). This option is available for the current and (n-1) versions. Please log in to your account, go to the Registered products and downloads section -> Bootable media. Download the file.
To get access to the ISO you should first register Acronis software.
You can find more information on how to burn an ISO image to a CD here.
Karen, the issue bout RPC server error is described in this article, it should help you to resolve the issue.
Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.
Regards,
