Windows XP cloning??

Thread needs solution

Hi There,
I have an old windows XP laptop which is reaching the end of it's lifespan. I have software and programmes running on it however that I cannot get anymore and I really need to keep.
On the front page Tru Image states " Universal Restore allows you to restore to any PC regardless of what manufacturer you had before and choose from up to 20 versions of your full system image including every single one of your data files."
What would I require, or how easy would it be for me to clone this computer exactly and redeploy in on another newer computer with a different hardware configuration and possibly different operating system?

Thanks,
Cathal Brennan

Hello,

2015 Premium, or 2014 or earlier that has Universal Restore.

Assuming you are restoring to a single hard drive, and not a RAID array, it is very easy. If you restore to a system that requires you to press F6 and feed the XP install a Storage Device driver (via Floppy disk) when you install the OS, then you will need to provide the Universal Restore with this same driver.

If you want to restore to a Desktop, or another laptop, with a single disk, you should be fine. However, if you restore to a newer laptop, and in the BIOS you have the storage controller set to AHCI mode, then you will need to find and use the driver. If you are confused, if the newer laptop has a BIOS setting for the Disk Storage mode, whereas you can change the setting to: IDE, ATA, Native, Legacy, Compatible, or similar verbiage, then you can use that mode without supplying the driver. (ATA mode is said to be about 10% slower, but you don;t need a driver) Look at my attachments to see this setting in the BIOS.
