Windows XP SP3 logs me off imidiate after logon with a cloned HD
I used Acronis True Image which came with a Kingston SSD to clone my XP Pro SP3.
As long as I keep the old HD in the system I can log on, once I take it out, Windows logs me off roght after the logon.
What can I do? I don't want to keep the old disk.
thx

I booted the pc with both drives still installed after the cloning. Now, I have learned that if you leave both installed on the first reboot, XP will end up using the old and new. I have found suggestions that changes to profile will correct the problem, however, I cannot locate the profile, so I am looking for detailed steps to locate it.

Yes, leaving both disks attached on first boot following a clone confuses windows and either or both may not boot as two identical disks exisit.
Try disconnecting the cable to the old drive.
New disk should be attached to same connectors as old disk.
Reboot and you may have to use the Windows installation CD and do a startup repair.

I followed your suggestion to connect only the new drive to the old drive connector and used the installation CD to rebuild the Boot.ini file to get a boot up that was partial until I reconnected the old drive. Should I have used a startup repair cd? If I use an old backup to generate a startup repair CD, will that work?

As MVP Grover points out, leaving both disks attached after cloning does lead to problems. Windows can assign incorrect drive letters, and/or mark the wrong partition as active, primary or boot. This will ultimately lead to a system which cannot start on its own.
Windows vista and later is more friendly to fix as it has start up repair included in its install media. XP media is not quite as friendly. Its boot media doesn't have these automatic features, and instead you must run things manually. For XP, I would perform a repair install on my cloned installation. For vista and later, a start up repair should suffice.
